DEFINITELY notify the school. Ten minutes of talking to an adult who can fix the problem could save your son from years of emotional distress and feelings of insecurity.

The first thing that you need to do is talk to the principal. Explain the situation to him and demand that he speak with the kids that are doing the bullying. Also demand that he speaks to the bus driver and find out why he or she is allowing this to go on on the bus. A bully is only mean until someone puts him or her in their place. They tend to be sniffling little weasels when someone stands up to them. Also ask that your child be seated in the front of the bus. This way the bus driver can keep an eye on him. DO NOT LET THIS CONTINUE. If there continues to be problems call the police and file harassment charges against the little brat. I am being serious here. Every child has a right to go to school without having to worry about punks bullying them. Good Luck to you.

You should notify the school. A lot of school districts have no tolerance policies now. If your kid gets into a fight, the school will probably discipline both of them, that may include calling the police and have both kids arrested. If you wait until then to say something about the bullying, they'll ask why you hadn't said something before. And the other kid's mom may say your son is the bully. You need to report it, and try to get something in writing from the school. You may need that to prove your own childs case at the school or in court. I've got 2 kids and my son was in the exact same situation, my first instinct was to tell my son to fight him, but when I read the school districts code of conduct book, I was forced to handle it differently. It turns out that the school had gotten complaints from the parents on the bus. Nearly every kid on the bus was afraid of him. They talked to the kid and it helped, because his parents had no idea he was bullying.

Get on that bus in the morning and loudly pronouce that "there is a bully amongst them" and how "sad it is that bullies always are the one with the real problems" and how "You are so sure that the very responsible bus driver, who is so good at what he/she does and handles all of those kids, will deal with a little trouble maker, b4 it could go to the principal.

I had this same problem with my 5 year old on the bus.(She is 35lbs and 3 feet 9 inches) Speak with the bus driver 1st. If it still doesn't help go to the school. If that still doesn't solve the problem go to the parents. That is what I had to do.

Definitely notify the school.
Then, buy him an air horn. You get them at party supply stores. They are agonizingly loud. He sets one of those off in a crowded bus, and trust me, the bully will leave. Plus, it draws attention to the bullying. If there was any question that your kid is telling the truth, this will put it to rest.
Or pepper spray. He could get in lots of trouble for this one, but if the school does nothing, he has the right to defend himself.

Speak in confidence with the Assistant Principal, who is usually the person in charge of discipline. Ask him /her if it is possible to set up a program on bullying. Many schools have done this, with excellent results.
