Hi, I have gotten a virus (or several) on my computer in only a couple of days, and they can't be deleted through Norton or AVG antivirus. Well, they do find the virus, but it either says it cant delete (Norton), or it says it was removed (AVG) but then it reappears almost instantly.
It started by me seeing an unfamiliar icon on my desktop telling me to "click here" to boost my pc power. I didn't , but rather looked in the program files to try and find the source. I successfully removed this (or so I thought), and the icon at least is now gone, but now I keep getting redirected from the web page i'm on to one wanting me to allow them to scan my computer then purchase WinAntiVirus Pro 2007. Even as I am typing this, I have been redirected to their page twice! I close it out in Firefox, but then it will open up in Internet Explorer, which I don't even currently use!
How the hell do I get rid of this? It's driving me crazy!! Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Go here and do a complete system scan:
http://housecall.antivirus.com
The company is Trend-Micro. An industry leader as far as Enterprise Level security and anti-virus protection. It will ask to run/install some java, and it is totally safe.
Good luck!
Oh, and to prevent possible re-infection, BEFORE you scan, temporarily turn off System Restore if you are running XP, as chances are, there is already a backup copy of the virus in your restore files.
Right-click on My Computer, Properties, System Restore. Disable the feature, run the scan, and once your machine is clean you can re-enable it.
Cheers

Suggest you run the AV program in Safe Mode. This way, hopefully, you will catch self-executing viruses.
If you are not familiar with Safe Mode:
Windows XP Safe Mode
Source: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm
This is an excellent link – explains well and includes screen shots.
1. To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
2. Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.
3. Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe mode - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP safe mode as the computer is booting into Windows, turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the safe mode screen.

How to Load Last Known Good Configuration
Source: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000626.htm
To load the last known good configuration in Windows 2000 / XP reboot the computer and as it's booting booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Last Known Good Configuration" and press your Enter key.
Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Advanced Options menu - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP safe mode as the computer is booting into Windows turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the safe mode screen.
Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message as the computer is booting. If this occurs instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key" tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.
Running the last known good configuration will restore your last good system settings and will not delete anything. The only thing you may have to reinstall programs you have recently installed because the configuration for those programs may have been lost.

Try running the scans in safe mode and without the internet plugged in
It sounds like it is spyware / malware which is reinfecting itself
run a number of diffirent antispyware programs one at a time
They all find diffirent things
standard ones are adaware ,spybot and the micorosoft and trend antispyware

In addition to what they have said, if you can not remove the virus, you should take note of the virus name that infects you. and search it in anti-virus site that you have. Virus Alert is usually posted in the anti-virus site such as Norton and that includes the step by step procedure on how to remove it.
Btw, I advice you to remove or uninstall IE and use Mozilla (Firefox) instead or other Gecko base browsers that don't have activex components. Because of this activex components of IE it is prone to virus attack.

killowen05, circulate to the strains in AVG's try effects the place the viruses are listed. suited-click on the line. choose for "Quarantine". each and each line could desire to alter from "contaminated" to "bumped off". as quickly as they are in the Vault, you will discover in case you may 'Heal' them, yet i does not carry my breath. AVG loose could desire to do it straight away. The loose ver of AntiVir WILL, so I uninstalled AVG and downloaded the loose AntiVir. outstanding to study which you at the instant have ZA. Did you swap off the homestead windows firewall? you probably did? incredible!

The easiest answer is to reformat your computer.
That will nuke any bugs you have in there but will also return you to factory default settings.
