Non-creationists seem to find that clip about the banana being "the atheist's nightmare" pretty ridiculous. But is it even seen as much of an argument by believers in creationism or Intelligent Design? Or do they generally see it as an embarrassment?

If you haven't seen the clip, search for "banana" and "Kirk Cameron" or "atheist's nightmare" on youtube.

dex_md, I disagree that atheists claim certainty of a negative. Some may do, but it's not a necessary part of the definition of atheism. I'm an atheist, by which I mean that I don't believe there was a creator. That's not the same as saying "I'm 100% certain there wasn't".
Nor, of course, can theists ever claim 100% certainty: even if you see God in person, the argument could always be made that you're being deceived.

I can't speak for Creationists, but I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of educated Christians, including those who believe the Bible should be taken literally, find it as ridiculous and embarrassing as non-Creationists. It's an insult to human intelligence.

lol...I just watched the banana clip. I am a Christian and I find Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron's attempts to 'prove' God's existence by using a banana's features, or other attempts I've seen from them, to be lacking and sometimes childish. Do I believe that bananas were created by God? Sure I do. I think God made everything. But would I try to demonstrate God's existence to an atheist using a banana? Of course not. I don't believe that the existence of God can be absolutely proven scientifically. Neither can the absense of his existence, though. That is to say, both positions are relegated to weighing evidences without absolute proof and therefore faith will play a role in both sides of the debate. I have, however, seen scientific evidence which points clearly to the concept of ulitmate design and which lead my heart to affirm the faith I have in God.
Most Christians who are worth their salt and have educated themselves on these matters would not resort to bananas. First of all, atheism is a logical fallacy and so I would not argue 'for' my faith with an atheist. I would simply demonstrate how his position is false. There are a number of ways to do that and it is rather simple. For example, one can use the confines of logic. Atheism is a positive affirmation of a negative (which is a logical fallacy). It claims certainty in the knowledge that there is no higher being in all the universe with all knowlege and power who created us. In order to rightly claim that, though, one would have to have all knowledge of all the universe to affirm that there is no being who has all knowledge in the universe. Agnosticism is a different matter in which I would have no problem sitting down and offering evidence for belief in a creator.
My ending thought, though, is this. There are very capable and intelligent people on both sides of this argument. There are even plausible arguements on both sides. However, both sides cannot be correct. Either there is an ultimate Creator, or there isn't one. From what I have seen, I believe there are very strong reasons to place my faith in God.
I'm open to further discussion.

Its a totally piss-poor argument, as are most of the arguments thought up by the creationists. You can pick so many holes in it, as can be seen by the responses to the video (on YouTube).
I'm actually embarrassed for those who lack that much knowledge, logic and scientific background that they believe this tripe.

There are not many people who do more to cast Christians in the light of ignorance as much as Kirk Cameron
I have tried to watch this Kirk's lame attempts at preaching, and been totally offended at his lack of Christian empathy and teaching. He seems to enjoy the whole you are going to hell, mentality, and when he does his street interviews/preaching, comes off as one of the most incoherent preachers ever.
I really wish he would stop his lame campaign that is really damaging the message of Jesus more than it could ever be helpful.
I just watched part of that video, those two guys are idiots!

And behold God created the banana, and the people doth praised him for it.
Exodus 3:15-16.
Good enough for me and nothing you can say will sway me from my love of the banana and God.

It's completely ridiculous. If "God" had designed the banana to be a perfect fit for the hand and mouth, then whey didn't he design ALL fruit in the same shape? (And all vegetables, etc.) It's stupid.

As a Christian, I'm embarrassed and ashamed by their 'act'. So much so, that I'm going to convert to Atheism.
