Well, I don't like it either. But we are still getting gas cheaper than anywhere else in the world.ie: Canada $6/gal.,England $7/gal.Australia $7/gal. Japan $9/gal. -All prices converted to american gal. and dollars.)
I live 47 miles away from my work. I am 1 yr. shy of having my house paid for, and it is on a lake. Somewhere I always wanted to live. So... I don't want to move.
I could get a job closer to home, but I really like my current one & don't want to leave it.
My best solution; Get a car that gets the best gas milage I can. No, I'm not talking about a Hybrid. While they are good on gas, the difference in repair costs will eat up any savings. A better choice is a small import w/ manual transmission & overdrive. I have a '85 Toyota Tercel that has almost 300,000 miles on it. It still runs like new and averages around 41mpg. I only cost me $600 too. When it needs small repairs, I fix it. If it ever needs a big one, I'll replace it with another cheap car.

Instead of concidering the cost of gas "per Gallon" why don't you figure it per mile. If you currently get 22 miles per gallon and a gallon costs $3.15 you are paying 14.3 cents per mile.
I live in California where gas is $3.95 for self serve regular. BUT I dirve a Prius and pay only 7.9 cents a mile. That's almost half of what you pay.
You have very little choice over what the gas price is, but you have a much greater choice over how much you pay per mile. Believe it or not, I bought my Prius mainly because I wanted to do less harm to the environment, The fact the car is very roomy, costs less to operate, never looses power in high altitude, and has State and Federal tax incentives were all bonus features.

big oil is not the problem the oil company's only make 6-8 cents a gallon. If you want to reduce prices the federal government makes almost 50 cents a gallon it taxes. Cut taxes and the price will drop. And no I won't join you the less gas you use the more for my V8 suv...

I already walk.
I have not owned an automobile since December 2006 and all things considered, I do not plan on owning another in the near future.
However, I am lucky in that I do not do not drive to work, the grocery store and shopping centers are within walking distance, etc. My girlfriend has two cars, blah, blah, blah.
In other words not everyone has my advantages, but you are correct in that sacrifices can be made if everyone is willing to do so.

Well I'm glad to see someone else is mad. I've been riding my bike and taking a bus for the last six years. Oh that was when Clinton was in office. That has nothing to do with it I just wanted to add it for some idiots.

i don't know why everyone bitchs about gas. yeah its going up but 99% of us NEED it. think about it. if gas went up 30 cents and you have a 25 gallon tank. your only spending average of 7.50. and if that's alot of money I'm sorry. i should be pissed cause i only get 9 miles per gallon. i only buy premium and it cost about 80 bucks to fill my truck once a week. i don't see what the big deal is. yeah i want it to go, heck i want it for free. but thats the way it is.
