Is claiming the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit- 3 Gods in 1 God) a true mystery beyond our simple intellect or is it a very poor excuse of a staple in Christianity that the Vatican had to defend once the populace had the means to read and understand the bible and dogmas for themselves?
Remember, for more than a millinia it was ILLEGAL for a lay-person to read the bible, to question the Church and to miss prayers on Sunday. Alot of authority was being held through ignorance. It wasn't until the bible was converted to German and then English did the average person know what was going on.

For a while, I was absolutely convinced that the Church had it wrong and that monotheism was a big lie, but not anymore. I started research for a book on why the Trinity wasn't true, and naturally I did a lot of studying the Bible.

The Bible has God the Father and God the Son both present at (and responsible for) Creation. Especially in the Old Testament, manifestations of the Holy Spirit are seen as manifestions of God Himself....basically it doesn't matter which one you are talking about, they all turn out to be God.

The Church couldn't figure out any better way to explain this than with the Trinity...so now we have the Trinity.

Well i think the trinity is a metaphor for out existence. Trying to show us the importance of three. Here are some examples:

We live on the 3rd planet from the sun.
We live in the third dimension
We consist of mind, body and sprit
Our lives consist of the past, present and future
Also can be looked at as childhood adulthood and old age
A family consist of two parents and a child ( to start with)

My theory:
When you die you can only take love, memories and knowledge.

There's probably some other examples of the use of three that I'm not remembering right now but i think you get the drift.

***edit***
Funny how you get thumbs down for speaking the truth. The idea of the trinity predates Christianity and many other religions. Do some research and one will find that what i talk about it true.

The doctrine of the trinity has always been difficult to support in the bible. Christians believe it is essential because of their doctrine of the fall of mankind in the garden of eden. Take out the o.t. and the need for the shedding of divine blood for the forgiveness goes away. That is why the christian church has done everything it can to make sure no one takes The Apocryphon of John seriously. The christian church has always been hiding something and this is it. In this text Jesus makes it crystal clear that He and the Holy Spirit were created and not equal to God. He also tells us that the god of Moses was satan. This is why the bible tells us nothing about where we came from, what heaven is like, and how satan came to be. Are these things not much more important than Jewish rituals? Ignorance is HELL!

Trinity and Godhead is a bunch of garbage and a very powerful deception.

The trinity is but one set of beliefs though most of the Christians today are really on the verge of "modalism" which teaches that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are really three offices held by the one God.

There are many Christians that do not believe either the trinity or modalism.

When a person says:
The Father is God. The Son is God. The Holy Spirit is God. But not three gods only one God.

They are really teaching something akin to modalism. This is considered heretical by true trinitarians. Often they will use also the word or label "Godhead".

"Godhead" is in many bible translations. But the Greek word should be taken to be "God's Divinity and the multiple forms He shows this to us". Paul used local concepts or concepts locals understood to explain God.

True trinitarians do not believe in a "Godhead", as taught in modalism, they believe that each is God but each is a distinct entity.

This is where many religious teachers can confuse the newcomer to religion. It is easy for them to show the errors in modalism, but difficult to show that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are not also one with God in purpose and essence yet distinct self's which is close to "trinity".

It really depends upon your faith and what you choose to believe. This is something that I had a hard time accepting at first because there wasn't a solid, concrete explanation of "Triune". We are by nature searching for hard answers & have a difficult time accepting intangibles that cannot be explained. As for me, I decided to accept the holy trinity - after all the Christian faith in itself is also an intangible that cannot be fully explaned. It all boils down to belief and faith. Sorry, that isn't any more of an answer than you started out with, but I don't have one:)

You know, I truly do not know. I have seen Biblical scripture that supports the concept of the Trinity, yet I know that it was something man set up. In the long run, it matters little because one way or the other...God is God.

When you are born of God, born of His Spirit, God will explain it in your newborn spiritman. Because everyone born of God is sealed with the anointing, the Spirit of Truth who leads into all truth. Understanding the Trinity isn't necessary to be saved. Believing in Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God Is. Believing He shed His blood for remission of our sins and he was broken so we could be mended. Believing He raised from the dead, victorious over death, for us, so we can be raised up from the dead like He Is.

It isn't illegal for you to read the bible yourself. When is the bible writting about the Trinity? Any where a Trinity associated to God is written about.
