Children today are maturing psychologically and emotionally much earlier today because parents are allowing them to be exposed to so many things that years ago, children did not see/hear/feel until much older. My children are what you would call by today's standards very sheltered in the sense that my 9 year old can only watch 1 hour of TV per day and only PBS kids or a DVD that we have. She does not have a cell phone, e-mail address, etc... like so many of her friends in school. She does not go to other kids' homes alone- I always go or she doesn't go! Our children definitely don't listen to the music that most kids hear. We want our 4 children to be kids and not be wrecked by all the violence, media, etc.. that is out there. Our kids hear about things at school from other kids and its sad to me that so many of them aren't even like kids anymore! My 9 year old still plays with dolls! She is extremely bright and soars above all her peers academically and socially. But she is only 9 and we are so proud of that! A 9 year old SHOULD still be playing with baby dolls! So, when others make fun and think her choice of activities is for babies, we are so glad she is the way she is. Don't expose your children to all the "worldly" things and media out there, and you will have your kids be kids for many years to come!

you're a kid until you're 18 in my opinion, people just decide to act like adults too,too early.
