Catholics do not give Pope any power. Jesus did.

The Pope does not change Holy Scripture.

John 21:15-17 states:

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs."

He then said to him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep."

He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." (Jesus) said to him, "Feed my sheep.

Matthew 16:17-19 states:

Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock.

The Pope is the senior pastor of 1.1 billion Catholics, the direct successor of Simon Peter.

The Pope’s main roles include teaching, sanctifying, and governing.

With love in Christ.

The Pope has never changed scripture. The Pope was given the authority to interpret scripture from Jesus Christ through Peter. What's the problem with that? Don't you believe in power and authority of Jesus?

By the way, I'm a convert from Protestant to Catholic. So it's not that I was "born this way!" God led me to the Catholic Church and I'm thankful daily for this!

hummm. no I don't hate them.

Don't think that authority is actually held by the pope or any priest. When it comes to Christian doctrine, the priests are the medium through which Jesus' authority is transferred to beleivers. The authority is God's.

when Cardinal Ratzinger was asked - how can he sleep at night with all the word's problems on his mind? He replied, "I sleep very well, thank you. And if you asked the Holy Father (John Paul), I'm shure he would tell you the same. You see, we know that the church belongs to the Lord; he is in charge. We are merely his servants, who have been given a task to fulfill for the time being, but the Church is the Lord's!"

I dont hate Catholics. How could I?

My family are all Catholic. My ancestors were Catholic missionaries, priests, nuns, martyrs. Many died protecting people from evil. Many were tortured for their beliefs. Some even worked directly for the Popes.

But then there is the vatican and 2000 years of crimes against humanity to consider.

Do I ignore it? Do I pretend it didn't happen? Do I act as if Catholics do not believe the Pope is infallible- a living God?

Not even Jesus considered himself infallible.

This is my struggle. For every good person who calls themselves a Catholic must face the same test- do you defend evil? Do you support evil by denying and apologizing for priest abuse of children? This is the struggle all Catholics must consider...

Catholics dont give the Pope any power. God gives him that. The Pope doesnt change scripture but preserves it from a million different interpretations that the thousands of christian denominations( Protestant churches) give it. The Catholic church gave the world its first written Bible, painstakingly put together by Catholic monks. Peter was the first Pope, the rock on which Christ built His Church and Pope Benedict XVl is his direct successor. Christ built the Roman Catholic church on the Petrine Primacy , because He could foresee that tens of thousands of denominations would spring up in later years all differing from each other on various doctrines and all rejecting the Vicar of Christ. So Christ built His church on the Rock of the Papacy , so all would distinguish His church from the rest that claimed to be Christ's churches.

I love Protestants too, but dont love their beliefs.

Imagine US without a president. There will be chaos.
So the pope is like the president, a leader.
There are so many catholics around the world so the pope looks very powerful. With empowerment from above, the pope does not need ours.
The doctrines and teaching from the pope is universal. That's why there is only ONE Catholic Church unlike hundreds of protestant churches, each subscribing to the teachings, doctrines and interpretation of their respective individual pastor.

I expect most Catholics are that way because they were born into it...it is a matter of tradition rather than conversion. They are a great group of people that help everyone. Not selective in who they will help like Mormons are. According to scripture when the last events begin to happen those that are faithful to God will leave their tradition and the power of the Beast behind. O happy day. Mmm

Most Catholics are true Christians who have been mislead like so many other denominations. Satan has had thousands of years to perfect the art of deception. When your church leaders seem to be putting themselves first...as some kind of Christ on Earth, beware. They may not even realize their idea came from Satan. Pray for your church leaders, and your political leaders...it won't be long, and we'll all be called from the confusion of Babylon, and those who follow the Beast of Prophecy. All of God's true followers will ultimately no longer be confused...we will be part of that group referred to as the Elect...true Saints who will be storming the gates of heaven in triumph with the angelic host of the Lord. When He calls us to come home. Those who keep the Commandments of God, and the Testimony of Jesus Christ...that is the Spirit of Prophecy. True Saints unite!
