My fiance and I are both atheists and we are getting a civil ceremony. It's performed by a Justice of the Peace and for an extra fee they will come to any location you like to marry you. Either that or they can marry you in their courtroom. You can still have a beautiful wedding and just replace the minister with a judge! Good luck (you didn't say if you were actually engaged or not but congrats if you are!)!!

You could check with wedding chapels in your area they will usually have an officiant that will do any ceremony regardless of your religious beliefs. If you do not want God mentioned in the ceremony then you will need to tell him/her that. You can also have a judge(justice of the peace) do it. If getting married at the court house there will be either no fee or a minimal fee and you can do it when you pick up your marriage license. If you are going to have a formal ceremony you can still ask the judge to perform it, but the fee will be more. Congratulations on your marriage.

Marriage is a legal contract, not just a religious union. Get married by a Judge, a Justice of the Peace or other civil union. The ceremony involves nothing religious, but is a legally binding marriage.

My parents were not religous either. You can call the courthouse and get the name of a local justice of the peace and they will come to your wedding location (theirs was outdoors at the family farm) and marry you for about the same fee as a priest would charge. It works the same way where you can either write your vows or use the traditional ones and then you sign the paperwork with your witnesses.

Even a religious ceremony only marries you in the eyes of God and the Church. The marriage certificate (from the government) that is signed is the real thing that marries you legally.

In a civil ceremony that talks about your love for one another, your love of your family, your promises of responsibility to one another, your favorite poetry and music if you like...
With that said, don't worry about anyone "Yelling at you about God or anything" You simply won't hire that person! The question is what is important to you? What do you want to include in your ceremony? What do you need to promise and be promised on your wedding day to live a long and happy life together?
Many samples of civil ceremonies on my website:

Just one thing to think of if the simple sentence "May God bless your marriage with health and happiness, joy and peace, for all the days of your togetherness" just before the pronouncement, would mean the world to your parents and grandparents but not kill you to have in there my advice is give it to them.

The court house is one way to go, but if u do whant the whole thing, you can have a friend or family member get lisenced to marry you. i beleve there are places online that they can do it. and of cource you dont have to have it at a chirch it can be done in a back yard or park or the beach, some where far far from a chirch. there are plenty of opptions outhere for you. Good Luck!

Personally, I got married at the courthouse and then in vegas. I made a point to explain. I wanted no god or religion mentioned in my vows. I found some on the internet and read them. It was perfect both times.

go to a court house and get the paper work done then have a big reception
or
You don't have to get married in a church. A preist would still marry you but i don't think it would be that big of a deal
You should get married b/c there are lots of benifits to it. For example what if something happens to your spouse and the house and car are in their name? even if it's left to you in the will you have toi pay mad taxes. Or if they get ill and are in the hospital you may not even be able to see them.

You can have a civil ceremony by any official; judge, mayor Justice of the Peace. This covers the legalities of the marriage contract.
Just curious why you want to get married if you don't believe in God? What difference does it make?
