As an IT person once told me in the technology world everything is outdated in 3 months so the prices drop, give it time they will drop dramatically as time goes on and newer technology comes out.

This stuff like most anything. The more time it on the market and a company get back their money for research and development the cheaper a product get. Though a Core2 Duo can never be as cheap as a single core. Soon they will have Quad Cores and then the Duos should be to a stable price like the single cores.

I'd say wait a few months and then buy, or do what I do and set a price point then purchase when it reaches that level.

With technology, prices are continually dropping, by the time you purchase the CPU, the quad-cores will be beckoning you.
