You know, there are two things that make people think that Islam is not a religion promoting peace and brotherhood.

One is the fact that today, we Muslims, are not upto what we should be. We are not religious, sorry to say. we do not follow the Holy Qur'an as we should. Many of us don't even do what is obligatory. Sad, but generally, for most societies, true.
Someone, here talked about angry, and voilence prone Muslims. Well, those Muslims you see on television are not the only Muslims. Those Muslims that send video tapes are not the general masses. It is true that there is despair among the general masses. That is because we have not been able to develop economically at the pace of the rest of the world.

Once again, this is not due to the fact that Islam stops us from progressing, because it does not (it only stops us from progressing through evil means), IT IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE WE MUSLIMS ARE NO LONGER REALLY FOLLOWING ISLAM. In Pakistan for example, there is corruption. It is inconcievable for a Muslim to be corrupt. But yet we see so. In Saudi Arabia as well. We are not upto what is required of us to be. If we be that then we are true Muslims, then we are what Islam makes us. What we are now is of our own making.

So people, please judge not Islam by people who appear on television calling themselves Jihadis. For if we should ever do jihad, we must first kill the evils prevailant among our own people and stand united. Then we, one billion people of the world, will see that isn't for us to fear.

The second thing is only a minor cause after the first is removed. It is the way we are being presented to the Non-muslims masses. It is the distrust regarding us that is being spread among the non-muslims. The people are being fed lies about us, and the sayings of our Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) are being misinterpreted as part of propagandas.

There are people who are spreading fear againdt us by showing the sacred verses of the HolyQur'an totally of out of context.

I am an American who lives in Jordan, I converted to Islam.. Before I converted I did not believe what the media or anyone else said about Islam... I read the Quran and about the Prophet Mohammed(pbuh), I know and I see that Islam is really a very peaceful religion.. I feel the problems are from fakes who pretend to be Muslims...like the wolf in sheep's clothing...this is why real Muslims need to continue to educate themselves, also I really feel that many iman need to learn to speak English better to convey the message of Islam to the world..

This is probably the BIGGEST LIE EVER TOLD. According to the Quran and the Sahih Hadiths, Islam is NOT a peaceful religion. Show me where the peace is...Have you read the Quran or are you just lying blatantly? Let me show you the Quran and see how peaceful it is? Take for example, just 1 sura. Sura 8, titled, "Spoils of War."

Read it and you see how evil Muhammad's Allah is, commanding the killing of non-muslims!

As an outsider looking in, Islam seems very violent to me. Following 9 /11 and the July 7th bombings in London I have been quite nervous of extremism and Islam in particular. However, we don't have to look too far back in history to see how violent Christianity was in it's early days and Northern Ireland, not too long ago, was pretty bloody too. Religion has done, and continues to do, more harm than good as far as I can see.

Shall we go back in time to the bombing of a US Navy Ship during the first Gulf War

How about the wars with Israel

How about the Ottomans VS everyone else

How about the wars in India way back when

How about the destruction of Jewish and Christians holy sites that were in Jerusalem for 1,000 to 700 years before Islam even existed.

How about what's going on today in Somalia

Yes. As is the case with Christians, a group of radicals can make a lot of noise. I could base my opinion of christians on what I read in the newspaper, but then I would think that they are all child abusing, clinic bombing, doctor killing, funerel protesting idiots.

I think a religion can't be judged based on what a minority of its followers do, Christianity included. Christians did that crap back in the day. The middle east just hasn't caught up yet.

Think about this, there is no place on the planet that has muslems living in any kind of diverse society in which they are not committing acts of violence again other people. Pakistan, Turkey, England, Spain, US, Canada, Middle East, Indonesia, India, Nigeria, Ethiopia, etc.

Islam is much about peace as street rap is about feminism

I admire the daily prayer ritual, the no alcohol and modest dress for women. It is basically anti hollywood, which is terrific since in U S our young people are brainwashed into a trashy way of life on tv and movies. I agree with you that the media has twisted it, as they have done with many things.
