Five.....

Most people know that we should be eating more fruit and veg. But most of us aren't eating enough. Did you know that we should be eating at least five portions of fruit and veg every day?

You can choose from fresh, frozen, tinned, dried or juiced. But remember that potatoes don't count because they're a starchy food.

Fruit and veg should make up about a third of the food you eat each day. And it's also important to eat a variety. Five-a-day is a good, achievable target. If you count your portions each day it might help you to increase the amount you eat.

Well I would not recommend eating too much green fruit... because if fruit is green it usually means that it is not ripe yet and probably won't taste very good.

Portions of green vegetables a day, the recommended daily consumption of vegetables is 3-4 servings a day.

The current approved FDA Food Pyramid has separated fruits from vegetables now, so you are told to eat 3-4 servings of vegetables and 2-3 servings of fruit per day.... fruit is lower because of the inherent sugar and carbs that are present in most fruit.

You are advised to consume 5 portions of fruit and vegetable each day.

Portions can sometimes be a whole fruit, part of, such as a pineapple or melon, or a weight amount. I believe 10 grapes or 8 strawberries makes a portion.
There is also things such as fruit juices too that count towards your daily amount.

But they don't all have to be green and you don't have to stick to 5.

At least five portions of different fruit of veg (not necesseraily green) , but you can have more if you feel like it. Fruit juice also counts for one portion.

why green? all fruit and veg are brill. as long as you have as near to 5 portions per day. i've also heard that certain fruit/veg requires different amounts to make up a portion, so best have a chat with your local green grocer.

4 servings of vegetables, about 2 fruits.

You can, occasionally, skip the fruit and make it up in vegetables, as long as you eat fruit on a regular basis.
