Okay, here is my question. Why don't you ever see cats on a walk. You see dogs on walks. And it is not true that cats don't like the outside, because a lot of people let there cats run loose. I personally am not a cat lover, but i LOVE dogs. Could it be that people love there dogs more then there cats?
No offense cat lovers, but i am just guessing here.

cats are not made to go for a walk. You'd be dragging them instead.

Walking a cat is not impossible - I've actually seen people who have done it successfully - however, it takes a LOT more effort to train a cat to a leash than it does a dog because cats really DON'T want to walk that way. Dogs are willing to "go along with the pack" so walking them is easy - they are willing to go where ever the person wants. Cat aren't "pack" creatures and prefer to "walk and search(hunt) then lay down then walk and search and lay down". If you know someone with a cat you can see this behavior even in the house. Cats don't do long walks because for them walking is part of hunting so unless effort is being spend hunting (or playing for house cats) it is rather useless. The cat would rather conserve energy by sleeping.

Cats and dogs are apples and oranges. They're completely different, physically and psychologically. Dogs need the extended, regular exercise and most dogs have the desire to work, so taking them on regular walks gives them a feeling of purpose. Cats enjoy the outdoors but don't need to exercise or be engaged as much. I take my cat out every day in his harness on a leash (we live right on main street and he's not very smart about cars) and he's content to roll around in the dirt awhile and eat some grass, while my dog needs to walk and pull on the leash for at least a good half hour (she's mostly alaskan malamute, so she has those sled dog instincts).

I have actually SEEN a cat on a walk!
I own both a dog and cat, love 'em both, but the dogs will basically grab a leash and hand it to you, they are so excited to go out for a walk...
Cats simply don't enjoy being on a lead (I think it has something to do with their innate Independence AND that they need to be able to "flee" if a larger animal sees them as prey... hard to do when on a leash...)
As far as cats being allowed to roam... well, that is under debate. There are a lot of us out there that do not allow our cats to wander outside because of the many dangers they may encounter and the fact that they decimate migratory bird populations... check out : www.owra.org/cateffect.htm

Cats and canines are 2 different matters. Cat have the could desire to roam around the place ever the please. this is like this. U can get a dogs used to donning outfits, besides the actuality that this is form of wierd. And cats hate donning stuff. And while a cat gets made at u they have a tendency to scratch u. So thats probably why human beings do no longer walk cats.

Probably because us cat owner don't leash train our cats.
It wouldn't be a problem if they were leash trained from a young age but if you even try to leash an older cat, they will tear you up. That and most people keep their cats in door, so there is no real reason to have the cat on a leash.

Cats don't need walks they get there exercise from playing in the house and can be trained to use a litter or go outside to the bathroom. You don't see people walking cats because cats don't need it.

First of all, a cat's neck is thinner and weaker than your average dog's neck. So a neck fracture is a serious possibility if you were to actually slip a leash around a cat. Second, cats are generally independent, whereas your average Fido loves to be walked. Finally, dogs need the daily exercise, cats don't. Because they are much smaller, cats can get enough exercise just walking around the house all day.

Cats aren't as loyal as dogs. Cats are more independent and don't need a human to put them on a leash and walk them around the block, because they can do that themselves.

Cats are less social then dogs in general. That doesnt mean anything bad- I ADORE my kitties!!! They like to eb outside but they don't like being on a leash AT ALL. They enjoy their freedom. Also dogs get walked alot so tehy can go poo whereas cats have litterboxes :P

dogs do need to be walk not running around loose like cats. dog will run around chasing people trying to bite someone ***. just too much with dogs.have you every been chase by a pitbull and he almost bite your *** off. i remember when i was little kid coming from school riding the school bus and a pibull was running around loose and chase me all the way home. so i rather see cats runnig loose than dogs. also if dogs ran around loose like cats their would be alot of owners going to court over their dog bitting little kids and adults or worse killing kids... i have seen that type of stuff happen before.
