I recently got my PC re-fromatted, so i had to re-install AVG (free edition) anti-virus. the installation went fine, but when the software tries to download the latest updates, i get a window having more or less the following message: " your installation is damaged and AVG cannot update". i tried un-installing and re-installing but i get the same message again...the virus scan works fine, n i have a problem with just the updates (which as every1 knows are crucial)... anyone have ideas on how to fix this..??
thanx =)

i had this before and you will have to start in safe mode and remove avg as it will not totally uninstall on reg mode. then go to http://www.majorgeeks.com/avg7.5 and redownload it . this should cure your problem.

I think the problem is with the AVG servers or with the AV program itself. I have been using AVG free version for years and upgraded to 7.5 free version etc then suddenly this weekend Security Centre brings my attention to the out-of-date definitions in AVG.

I tried updating online countless times. It recognizes the available updates but the usual install dialog never pops up. The process just hangs and dies away. When I tried updating from a folder, the updating dialog begins as usual then it also just disappears.

I think that rules out busy servers or firewall problems. I'm beginning to think a previous update was used to SPIKE the application from within to make it useless and get us to buy the PRO version.

I also recently uninstalled the AVG free Anti-Spyware application because it wasn't updating either for weeks. This is less of a problem but it may be related.

Any ideas out there?

I'd uninstall it again and then delete the "master" copy you have if you have saved it and are using that copy to reinstall the program. You might have some little "corruption" in it that is giving you this problem. I have had no problems with AVG at all.

You can go to the following to get a new copy:
http://www.download.com
http:/www.grisoft.com

Hope this helps.

I do not get that problem the best way to fix it is to uninstall it and install it on an external hard drive.

As others have said you need version 7.5 which can be downloaded here: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 or here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/AVG_Free_Edition_d886.html
