a friend of mine said that if you own a plasma tv, that you have to have the plasma gas serviced every other month that would cost lots of money in the long run. Is this true/

Definitely NO.
Plasma have now a half-brightness life of about 60,000 hours, SAME as LCDs.
This is about 20 years watching 8 hours a day.

Your friend is lying I have a Plasma and you don't need to change the gas. If you had to change the gas for a TV no one would buy that kind of TV.

That is absolutely not true. But, if you are thinking about buying a plasma TV, I think you should NOT get one. The reason is all the complaints that come in just on this forum concerning glitches in different makes of plasma. And the bubbles inside the front of the screens require way more energy to energize those phosphorous gas filled bubbles.

Plasma TV are not designed to be 'recharged' with gas. They have a life span rated by the manufacturers, typically 5+ years of non-stop viewing.
