First you need to have this diagnosed, no such thing as 'Rheumatic' anymore that term went out several years ago. If your knee is swollen, stiff and painful you need to seek medical opinion. It can be other things outside of Arthritis.

I don't know of any cure however I remember reading that ther is something about the sunshine going thru the pupils of your eyes that eases the pain. In otherwords go out into the sunshine for a 20 to 30 min walk and don't wear any eye glasses O just sit outside and absorb the suns healing rays.

of course the treatment differs from one person to another, according to the case.
but in general.
it requires anti inflammatory drugs prescribed by the physician, and also sedatives or analgesics,if the pain is great.
also it requires physiotherapy, for pain relieving modalities like TENS.
and inflammatory resoluting modalities like ULTRASONIC.
and also gait training, and strenghthening the muscles around the knee joint.
try not to make this person make friction, like not using stairs,or bicycles.
and a major thing is to decrease his weight if he's over weight,it has a great impact on knees.

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.

there is no cure for it. rheumatoid arthritis is an auto immune disorder (much different than osteoarthritis), meaning that your immune system attacks your joints. usually it is treated by steroids to supress your immune system and pain relievers.
