Here's my current sistuation. I got another job as I plan to leave my current one. The place I currently work at know that I am leaving. Anyways I had asked my current place for time off which they did not give because I needed to attend a very important family event. So I called in sick and they gave me a hard time (eventhough I called like 9 hours before my shift). Anyways I come home last night and see that there was a missed call on my phone which was them checking in on me.
I'm really upset because this is the first sick day I have used for the year out of 10 and I'm a great worker. Even though they treat me like trash. Especially lately now that they know I'm going to quit.
Anyways my problem is that I work today there. How would you go about this sistuation when you know your leaving in a few days. If they fire me can it affect my new job?

To clear up some things. Its a part-time job. And I asked for time off to go almost a month ago and was denied. I called in sick nine hours before which I was in the contract I signed.
I already got the second job but I'm scared they will call them and interfer with my new job.

Why don't you just quit? You already have a new job.

Take a couple of days off to relax.

If you already have a new job then they probably have already called your old job for references and the chances of them finding out are very small and i would really doubt that they would not hire you.
If you have sick days to use and you gave a notice, It sounds to me like someone in management just wants to give you a hard time. Although if the do fire you, you can collect unemployment until you start you new job and that is a way to get back at them, because they have to pick up part of that tab.

If you followed company policy when you called out of your shift, then the only thing they can do is ask for a doctor's note from you before allowing you to return to work.

As for if they can fire you, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If a company knows you're going to quit they will wait for your two weeks notice and accept your resignation rather than risking having to pay unemployment fees.

You need to submit your resignation letter with at least 2 weeks notice before your last day of work. You should also be aware that once you turn in your resignation the company can let you go at anytime. So be careful and be prepared if they do.

Well they CAN'T call your new job and badmouth you. It is illegal and you could sue the crap out of them. Yes more than likely they are mad that your leaving.
Here is the good news: Firing you before you quit would be the stupidest thing that this company could do to you. Let's say they fire you... then they would have to pay your enemployment if you decided you didn't want to take this new job. If i were you I would PRAY that they tried some under the table bullcrap and badmouthed you to your new job. You and your future lawyer would have them right where you wanted them. You would most assuradly win mucho $$.

always give a two week notice:

who is the company, i would love to know: 10 years of working and they wouldn't let you off,

However you should have asked sooner...9 hours is short notice to cover your shift.

Getting fired is not cool. If they do, you've lost a 10 year reference...
