The first issue to deal with is whether or not global warming is caused by humans. Al Gore's "inconvienient truth" is based on "junk science" and leaves out a few pieces of information that you might find useful.
First. Temperatures go up when carbon dioxide levels go up in the atmosphere. This is true, HOWEVER, the temperature rises on average 800 years before the carbon dioxide levels increase which means that carbon dioxide is NOT the cause. Second. Scientists have confirmed that global warming is a natural phenomenon directly linked to Sunspot activity. Humans do not have any influence over sunspots.
Now that I"ve said that, I'll also say that people should care for the earth, conserve resources, and reuse what they can. The only good thing about the whole global warming scam is that it may get some industries to clean up their act in regard to pollution. Unfortunatley we live in a world where misinformation must be used to promote sustainable living.
To more specifically get to your question, global warming has been a boom for business! Everyday, companies are being started that "recycle this" or "reuse that" in order to make a profit. People are purchasing new 'green' technologies and some people are fooled into purchasing items like carbon offset credits. "Global Warming" is a catchphrase used in advertising to make people think they're helping the environment by purchasing this or that. If you want to help our environment...then just don't want. Don't buy junk, live simply. Otherwise, party on!

You want a real answer, it's real real easy. In every major city in the world, were the bulk of "greenhouse gases" are comming from, there are a few run down buildings. Fill all the buildings floor by floor with air filters, run a fence with Kudzoo (a green fast growing leafy vine plant from Japan), have a intake and out take fan running at all times and it would filter the air. You can take the emmissions test requirements off of cars, and add the $15-$25 per car to your tag renewal fee and it would pay for everything. Take the homeless already living in those buildings and put them to work cleaning/changing the filters and you've killed two birds with one stone. If you or someone you know has the power to implement a plain such as this, go ahead-I don't care if you get rich off my idea, just so long as I don't have to pay more taxes for something we're not really sure about to begin with.
Oh, and to the folks that think the world is over populated...You can take every man/woman/child in the world and place them inside of Rhode Island and still have room for a few herds of animals.

The simplest thing to do to solve your part of the Global Warming situation is to:
1. Change light bulbs from Incandescent to flourescent.
2. Get rid of existing storage type water heaters and replace it with a Heat on Demand type water heater.
3. Change the color of your roof from black to white. Reduce air conditioning costs and electricity demands.
4. Cook less with Gas and Electric Ovens,
and more with Microwave Ovens. This will reduce
the heat you generate, and lower your power bills.
5. Do not pave driveways with "black" asphalt. Use light colored materials which will not absorb so much heat. This will reduce the amount that "you" actually heat the Earth.
All of these things are well within your immediate reach and can be done now to save you money in power costs and reduce your impact upon heating of the Earth.

If companies go out of business for doing the right thing, then they're just poorly managed.
They should stop paying CEOs millions of dollars, while paying their lowest workers minimum wage, giving us cheap products at huge markups if they want to stay in business.
If they want to be better, they just have to fiddle with the markup.
Funny thing though, people like green products, if anything, businesses that switch get even more money. Look at the growth of the organic foods sector, it's ballooned up like crazy. People will buy green.
If a company goes under, it's poor management only, it's never because they choose to do the right thing. Big business can afford to do the right thing, they're rich, with our money.

It will not be possible as we are living in an unsustainable way and our lifestyles have to change. As a result, businesses will have to stop operating or change what they do or the way that they do it as they are a large part of the problem. It is a small price to pay that some companies will go out of business in the fight to save the planet. Think of your own childrens and grandchildrens future if nothing else. Business must become sustainable and think of something environmentally friendly to do.

Actually, yes. When you drive over the speed limit, you're breaking the law. Often this isn't enforced and some leeway is given, but the speed limit is the *maximum speed limit*. Whether or not the limit is strictly enforced (apparently it is in Washington, btw), speeding is illegal. This proposal is basically a method of near-constant surveillance to ensure that you don't break the law. Think of it like having a cop on every street. Personally, since I don't speed and frankly don't like going over the speed limit (sometimes I do if I'm slowing traffic, but don't like to do it), I think it's a great idea. Not only are you wasting gas and creating excess CO2 emissions when speeding (not to mention other pollutants), but you're also making the roads less safe, increasing the chances of an accident. I really don't see why you think it's "fascistic" to monitor vehicles to ensure the drivers aren't breaking the law. I think it's a great idea. I constantly find myself wishing there were more police around to catch all the traffic violations I see, primarily speeding. Heaven forbid we actually enforce the law!

We can't. The types of and use of things has to change, and that will affect the companies that produce them, and the costs of their production. But we are essentially talking conservation and economy here, and properly tackling global warming will result in a better standard of living for all.

it will mainly mean industrys will be forced to pollute less and dramatic energy and oil price rises in the nearer term.....
This is also why businesses are turning towards sustainability and self reliance now as this safeguards them for the future....
Hence the word sustainability as it is not just environmental sustainability it is economic....

Perhaps if the large companies switch to solar and wind power, it would stop the problem and save money on the long term.
