Not really. Supplements are a gimmick that, while they sound good, rarely work in any defineable fashion. Some of the newer prescription drugs are possibly different.
At the end of the day, you have to burn more calories than you ingest. That's it. That's the entire secret. It's hard to do that without feeling hungry. If you eat six small meals of appropriate size during the day and drink a lot of water, it's easier to stave off feelings of hunger, even when you are burning more than you eat.
A pound of fat is 3500 Calories. A Calorie (note the capitalization) is 1000 calories, or a kcal. Most US food is labeled in Calories.
You have to burn about 500 more Calories a day to lose 1 lb a week.
Exercise is the best (and pretty much only healthy and effective) way of increasing your metabolism. Most of the supplements used to 'increase' your metabolism have stimulants such as caffeine or effedra (which I think may now be illegal in diet supplements). Those have some adverse effects in larger doses and can hurt your heart.
Walking is a great way to exercise--it increases your metabolism, it isn't hard on the joints at all, and it can be pleasant depending on where you choose to go. Basically, any form of exercise you enjoy can be healthy. 15 minutes a couple of different times a day can achieve some pretty impressive results!

The BEST way to increase you metabolism, eat healthy AND not be hungry is this:
eat 6 small meals a day. Eat every 3-3.5 hrs. Constantly eating will keep your metabolism working and increasing it...it will also give you tons of energy and help you lose weight. First, decide the amount of calories you want to intake. Remember, if you are trying to lose weight, then you want to burn more calories than you eat. If you are just trying to maintain weight, then burn as much as you eat. So if you set a goal of 1200-1500 calories a day, then you can do this:
Breakfast: 400-500 calories (then wait 3 hrs)
Snack: 100 calories (can be fruit, yogurt, etc. - wait 3 hrs)
Lunch: 300-400 calories (wait 3 hrs)
Snack: 100 calories (wait 3 hrs)
Dinner: 300-400 calories
Drink plenty of water in between. This is hard at first for someone who is not used to it, but remember it takes some effort to earn the rewards and benefits. After a while, it becomes very easy. You want something thats "easy to cater for" so make it easy on you - if you have a busy schedule, then eat breakfast, and pack the snacks and/or lunch with you. You can also pre-plan you meals a day before so its less of a hassle.
Also, if you want to really increase your fat-burning...start adding exercise to this and you'll see wonders!

The healthiest way to lose weight is to just eat healthy, and exercise. I know it's hard, but that's one of the only safe, healthy ways. Or maybe just have smaller portions of what you are already eating. To your question about supplements: some supplements do speed up your metabolism. Some make you not so hungry. Others boost your bodies ability to burn fat and calories. It all depends on which supplements you decide to take.

To raise your metabolism you should exercise for 1/2 hour before you eat,this means you shall burn your food quicker.Eat sensibly,fresh fruit,vegetables and fish are all a must for a healthy diet.There are many ways to exercise that are fun,like a nice walk,a relaxing session of pilates or even have some fun at the local ice/roller blading rink.Once you start getting fit the exercise will become more enjoyable.

Quickest way to speed up metabolism is to build up muscle by weight training. Even minimal increments (in terms of getting toned) make a difference as muscle tissue burns more calories when resting.
Couple an exercise program (that includes some cardio-vascular work with weight training) with healthy eating (lots of fruit and veg, no alcohol or fatty foods) and you should see results in no time.

Nothing other than exercise will usefully up your metabolism. In fact if there is a 'magic' diet tip, it is that if you diet without exercise you have a 2 in 3 chance of ultimately ending up heavier!*
A modest calorie reduction to 1,300-1,500 calories together with 30-40 minutes of rigorous exercise 4-5 days a week and it will come right for you!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Dieting is not easy, pleasant or (in some cases) healthy!
Take a walk or do some gentle exercise before eating, don't overeat, and then do some more gentle exercise after your meals.
