i found a really nice sun tattoo of tattoojohnny.com, a pretty good site for templates and asked a friend who happens to be homosexual what he thought. He said that sun tattoos are typically gay and that i would end up having guys chasing me, which i don't really want :s
i didn't think they were necessarily branded as such! wat do u think?

No not at all, in fact there are really no 'generalizing tattoos' they are what they are, each person has different tastes. So, if you like the tattoo, go ahead and get it, you'll be the one getting it done because it's what YOU want and not because someone told you it looked good.

If it helps you can always get a tribal sun, tribal tatoos are always great to have, and at the end it's always worth the money if you go to someone who knows what they're doing.

Sun Tattoos Meaning

The gay community tends to use a range of different secret signals, which change depending on where you live, the social circle you hang out in and over time. In reality gay guys go to places with lots of gay guys and meet guys without any problems (the advantage of openess to gays) so these issues don't matter too much.

I have gays guys hitting on me all the time, despite my deep voice and ugly facial hair. Girls try to pick me up as well, so don't ask me about what makes people do what they do.

Sun tatoos are fairly a kind of a hippy thing and are totally "gay" in the non 'gay' use of the world gay.

A tatoo is for life so you have to find something that truly expresses what you feel, think or believe. So it shouldn't matter what other people think.

Lol your friend's just having a good time. Well, when you come to think of it, I usually see sun tattoos or hennas common on women. The sun hennas I commonly see during summer times. It's like the women's version of "dragon" of men, something like that. And also well, one more thing I'm thinking about it is that children loves to draw the sun...and the moon... the stars... lol! Kidding, I'm playing. But still I think it depends on the design. Maybe add elements with it so it won't concentrate too much on the sun figure. Add more oomph to it. Really, you're friend's just exaggerating it. Gay people generally loves to make critics, you know that. My gay friends does. It really depends on the design.

At first I wasn't even going to look at the link... almost anything that involves your belly button is automatically in the gay column. Add the word tribal and it only pushes it further in. Then I took a look. Yes it is gay... really gay. Only way to be more flaming is to have it be rainbow shaded. Seriously it means nothing to you... Don't lie to yourself it means nothing. Just something to be kinda hardcore and still fun. Well it is an epic fail on both those fronts. It might as well be a aiming spot for a money shot. Just don't do it. One of the guys in my unit did the godsmack logo around his and it just looks horrible! He gets crap on a weekly basis for it. And I even like the band! In the end it is your decision so go with what you want. After all I have a freaking purple decepticon logo on my chest who am I to judge? Just have thick skin and some witty retorts and you should be fine.

i have never heard that sun tattoos are "gay" but i do have a gay friend who has a tattoo of a sun but he hates it and wants to have it covered up with something else. i don't know what to tell you. but it seems like lots of people have sun tattoos tho and i'm sure they're not all gay.

and just say no to tribal! i don't know what that person down there is thinking... tribal is not always great to have. that and names are the two most covered up tattoos which should say something about how "great" they are.

My husband has a huge sun tattoo on his upper arm (with our kids names on banners inside the sun) and he doesn't have guys chasing after him. I think your friend was just having fun with you. LOL just think about what tattoo you really want and then get it, don't worry about what others say about it. Good Luck!
