Actually this is not my thinking yahoo QA member's question created this all.1 question can water run a car & 2 can we get free energy ? imagination is eye of soul, your action is my reaction, so these question compelled to find out a solution this is a small try.We all have to try to achieve.
A simple thinking not a joke:
1. Source: Carbide stone.
2. Water : drop water to carbide stone inside a closed cylinder.
3. Power : formation of high pressure gas according to the mixture of water&source accordingly.Required 2 cylinders.1 active one idle turn by turn.like steam engine eg.
4. Produces mechanical power according to hydraulic,Air pressure or steam engine .. rotary mechanical power.
5. Energy .. can get from rotating dynomo/alternato
6. Invest return: the gas which is used as pressure gas is stoped at a last point during work.when second cylinder start working the 1 st starts supplying gas to refill cylinders or a big tank can be refilled later.
Gas use for welding.

Carbide & water produce acetylene gas.

Acetylene is very unstable under pressure as a gas and can spontaneously explode above 15psig.

So you idea of using pressurized gas is then limited to 15 psi and to get the needed force to move a car you will need larger diameter cylinders to generate teh required force....

You could burn the acetlyene in an engine as a fuel source, But the fuel stored in carbide is no as dense as other methods so you would quickly run out of fuel....

The simple answer is that it isn't free.

To get the carbide, you have to make it using a mixture of lime and coke at 2000 F with an electric arc furnace. The energy to do that comes from somewhere, and coke is a derivative of coal.

So you wind up using more coal than you would if you just burned it to make electricity.

expensive God, maximum individuals on those boards are thoroughly illiterate. short answer: No such element as unfastened capability exists. There could be R+D expenses (till plans fall out of the sky), shape expenses (till great-valuable fusion flowers build themselves), storage subject concerns (till batteries build themselves), and cord subject concerns (as somebody else reported.) might electricity be unfastened? No. might electricity be plenty greater fee-effective than it particularly is now? specific. After the patents expire, capability expenses might fall particularly. can we would like unfastened, countless capability? No. If there became NO income to lowering capability use, we would ought to build many greater "unfastened capability flowers" than we easily want so as to fulfill furnish.
