He married American politics with Christian religion, creating a snarly hybrid that rendered the country asunder.
Under his direction, Christianity discovered fundamentalism, just like the Muslims did, making it imcompatible with many. We can only hope that it isn't "kicked up" a notch and made murderous, like in the Middle East, or in Christianity's early years. It's not inconceivable at all.

It's hard to think of one legacy of value. No-one seems to have a good word for him. What a tragic waste of a life.
A man whose influence was so broad, who could have used his voice to promote peace, unity and understanding, he seemed to prefer instead to devote himself to bringing out the worst in people.
I'm sure he has done his god the service of ensuring many with open minds turned away due to Falwell's influence.

He upheld the American right to Freedom of Speech. He promoted the religion of the Founding Fathers of America. He upheld the religion from which most of the Laws of the West have been based for the last 1700 years. He demonstrated commitment to an ideal in a world that is becoming increasingly more violent and corrupt. He spoke a message that was supported by the Christian church which is why he was able to continue to preach. He spoke a message that rung true to many thousands of people which is why we know about his death. He was recognized as a significant and important person acknowledged by thousands who attended his sermons. He was true to himself and not into faddish spin doctoring. He adhered to the Bible so the media and popular culture couldn't dictate to him what to think or believe, which I think is really why people are being hyped up to hate this man. My guess is that most people have only heard of him through the media, never heard his ministry personally and never knew the man.

Well, he created a college where he gathered together most of the like-minded of the next generation into one place. These are known (in other cultures and times) as concentration camps, and they serve as a valuable tool in monitoring the whereabouts and activities of that ilk.
Consider it a self-adopted ear-tag for Moral Majority freaks.
