Yes, I got mine pulled out last year and it was a horrible experience for me. They say usually people don't experience it that bad, but not me... I was sick for 2 full weeks, on bed rest and throwing up and eating nothing but soups and crackers (dipped into the soup to soften). My recovery time being so lenghty might of been because I too had to get my bone cut in order to remove one of the 4 wisdom teeth, or maybe I was just allergic to the pain killers they gave me aftewards.. who knows. I wish you a quick recovery. Try eating soups and soaked crackers, or anything that is very soft to eat. Keep taking your pain killers. Good luck, dear. Hope you feel better much sooner than I did...... waaaay much sooner. I hear most people get better in a day or two, I hope this would be you.

swelling and pain is natural for a day or two. the "no straws" point is really important too: when you get teeth pulled a blood clot forms at the site which is really important for healing. eating/drinking on that side of the mouth can dislodge it as can the pressure in your mouth when you use a straw. if the clot comes away you end up with "dry socket", which is more pain, and a really bad taste and smell in your mouth. if this happens you need to go back to the dentist and get the wound packed with clove oil and gauze, otherwise you could get a bad infection and have a wound which takes months to heal. sometimes a dentist will put stitches into the wound, especially if he had to cut into the gum/jaw for impacted teeth, in which case dry socket should not be a problem (as the wound will be sewn up). dry socket is really only a problem when the tooth is just pulled out.
at the moment just take pain killers and don't let and food/drink on that side of your mouth. use a cool compress applied to your cheek for the swelling if it helps.

There is no easy way to say this, but getting your wisdom teeth pulled out DOES hurt! It is more pain full than getting one of your normal teeth pulled out, because the root on a wisdom tooth grows much deeper.
But if your dentist recommends you get it pulled out, the sooner you do it, the less pain full it will be... Because if you wait to long it can cause damage on your flesh or other teeth and there is also a risk that you can get an infection... So get it done as soon as possible... And it is not SO bad... :) Good luck

Make sure you place some ice on your affected side(s) to control the swelling and utilize the pain medication that was given to you. Pain meds should be taken on a consistent regular schedule (i.e. Pain pill every 4 to 6 hrs then use 1 ibuprofen in btwn the 4 to 6 hrs of taking the pain pill). You will not be able to eat anything until the next day and then it's only soft foods like pudding, applesauce, creamy soups, etc. Good luck. Oh, and NO STRAWS.

It has absolutely nothing to do with poor dental hygene. My dental surgeon explained it to me as an evolution of human beings. Prehistorics used to have larger jaw bones and there was enough room for all of those teeth, also they didn't have the means to take care of the teeth they did have, so they either rotted out or were knocked out in fights and such. The wisdom teeth were just an extra set of 4 teeth.
When i had mine pulled out, I only had three. Two on the bottom, and one on the top. The one on the top was in my sinus cavity, so they had to cut in more in order to get to it. It definately hurt, and I was black and blue from my eyesocket to my neck for about a week. Listen to what your dentist says and do follow his directions and you should be ok.
DONT use a straw, smoke, or suck on ANYTHING until after you go for your follow up. This can result in "dry sockets," and from what i hear, they are EXTREMELY painful.
Take the pain meds as perscribed, especially if you have an extended ride home, take one of your pain pills as your leaving the dr.s so it kicks in before the anestesia wears off.
Ice your cheeks like they say. It'll leave you looking less like a chipmunk. Keeps the swelling down and makes everything numb!
I practically lived on chicken noodle soup, applesauce, jell-o, and jell-o pudding for a week.
Dealing with the pain for a week or so is DEFINATELY better than dealing with the pain for your lifetime, and it may mess up the alignment of your teeth if they start to push through and don't have enough room.

I am 14 and i just had mine a few weeks ago taken out. I found that if i ate cold melty stuff that it felt good. For the first 4 or 5 days i ate only pudding, apple sauce, popscicles, ice cream and freezies. The doctor also said to rinse my mouth with salt water starting the day after. It really really did help even though salt water is discusting. Drink lots of water and take your pain meds as often as possible. Also you could try ice pack for 20 mins and then hot bean bag for 20 mins. Thats all i did and my holes healed in a week and the stitches started coming out in 5 days.

When I had mine removed, they had to be CUT out of my gums bc they hadnt come fully through and would have been at a bad angle when they did. I had a face like a chipmunk for 3 weeks, and even worse, the pain meds they gave me made me feel very very sick. So. during the sickness and painfulness (which got worse when I had to stop taking the painkillers) I found my only respite to be in sleep and popsicles. LOTS, and LOTS of popsicles (since you cant really eat yet) also anything cold. suck on ice. the freezing makes your face go numb, too and wont hurt so bad. try even putting ice in a cloth and holding it against your face. Also, try to sleep as much as possible. Good luck to you.

Did your dentist not give you anything for the pain?
If not, that is not a normal thing for a dentist to do.
Did you have all of them out at the same time?
As for the pain, I would contact your dentist and tell them you are in a lot of pain, and ask for something to help relieve it.
I know that it is Sunday, so if it is really bad today, you might need to go to the ER and see if they can give you something to help you.
As for the swollen face and not being able to eat anything, that is normal as well(depending on how long ago it was).
You have suffered trauma to your body(at least that is how your body is thinking about it). Don't be surprised if you end up with some bruising as well.
As for eating....you may have to stick with liquids for a few days. And you may have to take them through a straw.
Try things like chicken noodle soup, vegetable soup....any type of soup that does not involve a lot of chewing.....and drink plenty of liquids as well.
GOOD LUCK to you....I hope your pain eases and that you have a fast recovery. ;-)

Thank God for anesthetic, yeah I had mine pulled too. Wisdom teeth really are useless if the rest of your teeth are healthy, especially if they are impacting and threatening to make the rest of your teeth crooked. My sister had braces when she was an early teen, so she had the small molars two rows in front of her wisdoms pulled in order to fit her braces in. Then when her wisdoms grew in they were a good healthy set of molars. Now, she has three sets of healthy molars, (Gee) and only a small gap where the small molars she had were pulled..That would have been nicer, but anyway, it happened the way it did with me, I lost my wisdoms, but it isn't the end of the world.

Yes two of them and it was bad for only three days. I tried not to think about it and drank juice and soup during that time (I told myself it was an excuse for a diet and to loose weight). I wish you the best of luck. Try to concentrate on things you like such as listenning to music, take it easy, relax (maybe you can sleep more) and push out the feeling of pain from your mind until you feel much better. Good luck.
