My computer is saying that it has a non genuine copy of windows?? It broke a while i was away and my mum got the computer fixed but i believe that the person that fixed put a non genuine copy of windows on this computer. I have tried using the Key Changer program on the Microsoft website but it fails everytime. Is there a way i can re-master my computer??

You probably did get a non-genuie version of windows if you sent it for repair to have the OS reinstalled, unless you gave them your key to use.

It could also just be a bug, Microsoft is heavy into stopping piracy and not the brightest company around. You might need to reinstall the OS and use the key that came with your system, however, remember after so many installs, your key isn't valid anymore without many calls to Microsoft and being accused of piracy :)

Better yet, go donwload yourself a nice copy of GNU/Linux, like Ubuntu. Pretty easy to use, has all the software you could want, and well, hey it is free. Dell actualy ships with Ubuntu as an option now. You can even download Ubuntu desktop, and it will boot as a usable system off a CD without installing it, just so you can give it a try. The rest of the world is on the move to Linux, might as well hop on the train also.

I Think the guy who installed Windows on your PC might probably have installed a duplicate one

Assuming you have your own legal XP, take your PC and CD back to the tech guy and have him do a "clean install" for free. That will replace the illegal version. He should have asked for the legal CD.

If you DON'T have your own legal XP, buy it.

If you have the Windows install CD then you have to reinstall the operating system. If you don't then you might have to buy one.
