Very Simple. 99.99.99.99% of them it is about MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. I use to watch a Great Teacher on TV before I moved to where I am and the area does not carry his program, AND He HAS NEVER said one word about money other the IF you want to buy any Study Material you can. ONLY IF. He has been Teaching for over 40 years and DOES NOT even take up Collections in his Church. This is WHAT I have told countless people that IF one IS DOING Gods Work AND doing it Right, God WILL Sustain them in that work. There is NO POWER in Hell or on the Earth that can STOP IT with God Backing them up. God Gives the Brick and Mortar to Build with, BUT we MUST do the Work. It is the SAME as God supplies the Worms for the Birds, BUT He does NOT shove them down their Throats. They have to go out to GET THEM.

They promise so much, to gain a lot more wealth! They prey on the sick, the weak minded, the lost, the foolish, the forgotten, the lonely and many more in that vain, so the televangelists gain more wealth, power and influence!

My parents gave these guys thousands of dollars every year the entire time I was growing up. They could not afford to send me to college but they could help pay for Jim Baker's air conditioned dog house. When my mom passes away I expect to pull up at the house for the reading of the will and see Pat Robertson backing out of the driveway in my mom's Buick. I grew up in a small town fundamentalist church, went to service 5 times a week. twice on Sunday. PTL club was always on the tv. Now its TBN or as I prefer to call it The Beast Network. My parents were good people, helped every one devout christians, but very naive.
God Dammit! Jim Baker owes me a B.S. in Chemistry.

Warning against false teacher
1Tm:6:1: Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.
1Tm:6:2: And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
1Tm:6:3: If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
1Tm:6:4: He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
1Tm:6:5: Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
1Tm:6:6: But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1Tm:6:7: For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
1Tm:6:8: And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
1Tm:6:9: But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1Tm:6:10: For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

basically to get your fricking money to support their lifestyle and pay for more TV time. It's the oldest con that started with tribal shaman trading trinkets, charms, "cures" and advice for fun mushrooms, room and board and the pick of the women or men folk. In primeval times if you didn't want to hunt or gather you joined the "priesthood" and learned all the tricks of the trade.

I don't think televangelists are any better then old snake oil salesmen. They lie and swindle and offer things they aren't capable of giving. And they prey (no pun intended) on people who want to be saved or what have you. I don't think too many intelligent and secure christians really follow them or send them money for those types of things.

Because it works. Its like preaching hell to people. "All good christians buy these prayer beads so they can talk to god. Dont YOU want to talk to god?"
And all the strong christians freak out and buy the products, because they fear that people will see them as less of a christian.
Overall, they promise so much because it gets them buisness
