I'm just curious what other people would do, because this happened to me the other day.
I went for lunch at the Spaghetti Factory with my sister and we had a nice, creepy looking waitor about who looked about 19.
He went to go get our food and it took him awhile, and when he came back he reeked of smoke. I was so put off by the smell that I lost my apetite. I used to smoke so the smell doesn't usually make me cringe but it was just nasty. I didn't complain to the manager or anything, I'm not sure why, but I just didn't.

What would your reaction have been?

I know I probably should have said something. I just wasn't in the mood, that's all.

Hmm, you have a point Cindy. Except I never smoked at work in the middle of an order, and I always made sure to change my clothes/brush my teeth if I was going to have contact with somebody.

I used to run a restaurant and would have been absolutely devastated if you hadn't told me that one of my staff had behaved in this way!

You now won't go back, will you? The Management will see their takings going down and won't know why. Phone today and tell them - it's their job to sort out the way staff behave and they will appreciate your help.

They might sack the waiter, but serves him right !!

I agree with LaDonna - I was a waittress, not a good one either. I hated my job with a passion, took smoke breaks (I've been smoke free for a bout 11 yrs) to calm my nerves and just didn't care. Looking back, I knew nothing about customer service and none of us were taught about it either. I just functioned on whether or not my day was good or not. I understand not saying anything, we all have days like that. I think, however, it would be to the company's and employees benefit if you say something. He may not have realized how offensive the smell was.

left the table with a note saying:

Attn: Mgr
I will contact you tomarrow regarding my dinner. Call the next day and explain where you sat and why you left.

That would strike a staff meeting for all employees.

i wouldn't say nothing. When you use to smoke did you ever have a cigarette and come out from the cold into a warm place and talk to somebody.how would you feel if they told you now you had a cigarette Because you had a cigarette I want you to give me your lively hood.He had a cigarette break and then went back to work.Someone probably felt the same way you did when you smoked but they had enough compassion not to take your life from you.

I would have told the manager exactly what you wrote here and probably would have passed on eating there at that point.

first tell him kindly that the food he presented to you was unaccepatable and you wanted it returned. never insult, that isn't good. you never know what they would do in the kitchen. if he went crazy, then i would have gone to the manager.

If your meal was ruined, you should have nicely mentioned it to management. No one should be working in that condition. It's not fair to the patrons.

My meal would have been free.....8o) and you could bet the house on that one!!

I would have expressed myself as only I can...and they would have wished I had used profanity instead!! 8o)

To verbally eviscerate is my forte!!
