Organizing Atheists is a lot like trying to heard cats…Nearly impossible. There are clubs like American atheist and free thinkers and so forth, but even amongst those groups, they are varied in their opinions and beliefs far more than if you went to say a Baptist church (not picking on the Baptists - just using them as an example) where the people would mostly be very similar in their beliefs.
Personally, as an atheist, I'm proud of that fact. ;-)
------------------
Edit: I don’t think that organizing would somehow magically turn us into a religion either though.

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not a "stand alone complex."
It really sounds like you're saying "all atheists think alike anyway, so why not form ourselves a neat little support group-***-evangelical militia."
Do I really need to even begin on how much is wrong with all of the implicit concepts?
I get so sick of people trying to turn atheism into a movement. It's about as meaningful as saying everyone who doesn't like cheese can be best friend - and about as "mature."

To form an atheist alliance? No! because then we will start to be like a religion. And to what ends - just to fight the extremists?
I do believe that if we just continue to stand for what is true and stop the slaughter of truth in public then we will keep ourselves in the 21c and not be dragged back to the dark ages.

Interesting that nearly everyone answering this question approached it solely in terms of religion and creating a sort of dogma.
Why not something more like an activist group? I wouldn't even make atheism a criteria, just an information and activist group to speak out for true freedom from religion (and for religion as well) in the U.S. That was part of the original agreements after all.

Difficult to make it work. One of the reaons we became atheists is that we developed a well-founded mistrust of authority. We tend to be free thinkers and wouldn't much like to submit our ideas to a membership committee, who would decide whether or not a person is a true atheist and not merely an agnositic, non-Christian, or publicity seeker. If I wanted to give testimony to my beliefs for others to examine, I'd still be going to church.

To organize Atheists would be a complete travesty--it would turn it into a religion---let's just let facts & reality spread the message!!--Just look at the current state of things--one of the most popular Gods around now is the one the Jews thought up---a complete maniac--who says the 6,000 year old Earth is flat,&unmovable--& that people who pick up sticks on his "Sabbath"--should be stoned to death--one would assume the cruel Jewish God is on his last legs.

I am no atheist so this question is not for me but this seems to fly directly in the face of why Nietzsche argued for a embrace of atheism and of his hatred for religion. You will end up destroying your end purpose for atheism by doing such a thing. And without that end I can't imagine why on earth it would matter if you believed in God or not!

Just a friendly tip: centralized forces weaken themselves on interdependence. To be 'hermetic' is to be strong. It is all about variations on a theme.

atheist cannot form religion because their nature is a denial of religion. If they will what would their God look like be? It will be denied over and over again. Poor atheists!
