I know what you mean. I did the same thing several years ago. The trick is to wait out a cycle. So one day, stay up all night and day and go to sleep about 8 or 9 pm. You'll wake up too early, but you'll at least have a better jump on your cycle.

There are a couple of strategies I use after night shifts for when my body has adjusted to what I call "Night shift mode"
(1) the day following my last night shift I stay up and drink plenty of coffee - I stay up and stay up and stay up and finally crash at about 7pm
I set my alarm and usually am up bright and cheery at 6am
(2) I think I might be getting a little old for this game. Some night shifts I'm done at the end and can't stay up. I then go to sleep and wake up as usual (sort of 1pm - 5pm -ish wake up time) and then I sedate myself at about 8-10pm in the evening. Either a good stiff drink or two, or you could see your GP and try and get some sleeping pills.
Set your alarm and try to relax more than anything else. The aim is to sleep the night without waking but the whole "try to sleep try to sleep" thing is a sure fire way to have disturbed sleep.
Establish a good sleep routine. Practice good sleep hygeine. The bedroom is for sleeping and not for activity, reading, frisky business (do all this in the lounge or in the garden or wherever).

It may prove to be quite a triky problem, but I wouldn't say you need to see a doc about it, let's calm down for a sec...
Step-by-step now...
1. Start by not sleeping at 6. If you go to bed at 6, then don't go at all, stay up all through the day. Guaranty you'll feel almost dead by 10 in the evening, thus you'll sleep and wake up (by alarm clock!) at 7-8. Keep doing so for a few days. By the end of this week you'll be ready to go.
2. Unfortunately, you need to quit what keeps you up, whatever it is you were doing (going out, internet, tv, whatever, even sex) for a while. Until you find a new rythm, just stop it.
That will work. Cafein is not an issiu, unless you're hung up on it. Of course, you are not to have any coffe for at least 6 hours prior to bed time. Emforce yourself to stay awake for almost 48 hours, then let it sleep at 10 in the evening. That will fix you up. AND NO MIDDAY NAPS.

Well, I don't have any answer's to this very puzzling question. I to am suffering from this day and night sleep mix up. I have tried everything from staying up a full cycle to trying to sleep a full cycle. I've take melatonin, stopped drinking coffee, stopped taking my lupus, migraine, fibro, and asthma medications. I've tried to drink a mixed drink and beer before bed, bad choice that wound me up like a bad clock. I have been taking 30 to 60 mg of Temazepam every night and even then I have to wait until I am all but drooling on myself to even go to bed. I have always had sleep trouble's but never this bad. I have even gone and stayed at families homes for a week at a time thinking that maybe being around people that sleep normal will get me to a semi normal sleep pattern again. OH NO there I was sitting on the couch at 5am in the dark just waiting on people to wake up. Excited on and off when they would wake up to go to the restroom in hopes that they couldn't sleep as well. I don't want to have to take these sleeping pills forever. This is the first time in my life that I have resorted to using them but I feel like I am in fact going out of my mind. Thank you for any further help or suggestion's that anyone can provide for me as well.

First off, you have to force yourself to stay awake at the proper time. The best way to train yourself to sleep when you need to is to medicate. Melatonin works good and you shouldn't need it for long if you stick with the schedule. Benedryl is really good too but it's important to remember you have to tire yourself out before you even attempt to sleep at the proper time you need. Exercise, clean, run around the block, whatever it takes then try the medication. Do that for a few days, and your body will adapt to what you need. Good luck!!!

wat one can do is to first sleep at a period that you usually want to sleep. Before you do so, exercise a lot so your body is weary, and REM is necessary. Also, just running is a good way of releasing enrgy and making sleep easier. Dont put on any music, though it may be classical, cuz it dusnt work, it only disrupts REM signals.
Then, put ur alarm on to the time you want to wake. and dont wake up until it rings
if u, do exercise again,
One option is to sleep little for a week, and then do this procedure, ur body will acccept the REM very well.
