I'm in the market for a new camera. I'm 16 and my parents said they will buy me a new camera as a christmas present. Im looking for a camera that is going to be durable. I want to be able to take high quality pictures, but my parents wont spend over about $500 AUS. Any ideas?

i was thinking something like a canon ixus 70..something small and compact would also be pretty good for me..shockproof even better!

Nikon D40 is available for about $530 which includes the nice kit lense.

Would be very exciting to jump into a good dSLR.
