They vary to a very large degree. If you are talking about authentic katanas, I've seen them go for several thousands of dollars.

If you are talking about commercially produced stuff, probably in a factory, they are significantly cheaper. I bought a katana for 20 dollars from a local martial arts store.

But remember, the cheaper a katana is, it is very likely the lower quality of the weapon. If you are planning on practicing kendo or something, it would probably be best to splurge a bit and get a high quality katana. You always get what you pay for, don't forget that.

If you're talking about the genuine sword handed from one Japanese family's generation to the next complete with history and "pedigree", then forget about it, most are considered as Japanese national treasures, therefore priceless, so it would be illegal to purchase and take any out of Japan.
