were they taught incorrectly or did they just not bother to pay attention in biology class?

They just don't want to hear it. By their account, the world was formed exactly 4,004 years ago and dinosaurs roamed the earth with cavemen, Fred Flinstone style. I am Catholic but I believe in evolution and this is how I think all of this really went down: God is like the R&D department of a company, he made simple rough prototypes of all living things and through God's adjustments and real world conditions, the species came into how they are today.

Charts in biology classes across the United States show direct descent from apes. See the link below for the very familiar chart used in your neighborhood science class.

If evolution does not assert man's descent from apes, then millions of teachers have been actively deceiving children for decades.

The further you go back in time (according to the theory) the more ape-like our "ancestors" become. Eventually, the "ancestors" are indistinct from true apes.

If you are really upset by this, then you're faulting the wrong group. You should be doing everything in your power to flush the school system of this nonsense that human beings came from apes.

Ignorance of the TRUTH stated in the Bible, is the short answer. The ignorance of our government to allow Darwinism to be taught in our public schools, while removing the TEN COMMANDMENTS, PRAYER, and the PLEDGE OF ALLEGENCE at the same time, this has left our children with little to believe in. Politics states profoundly that there must be a clear separation between church & state, yet this government of ours is an absolute mixture of church & state; it's called "DEMOCRACY". Right now. Bush is at war attempying to bomb all the Muslim countries into Democray. Why? The TRUTH is, that there is no separating rift between science and the Holy Scriptures, they are in agreement with each other. YAHWEH OUR CREATOR is not the father of confusion, satan is. This earth that we live on is ancient, even though the FATHER says that HE CREATED IT for man, the tenure of mankind himself on earth can only be recorded back to about 6000 years. However, this does not mean the the earth its self is only 6000 years old.
a person would have to be a fool to deny the existance of the dinosaurs. And the scriptures teach that the angels trespassed here on earth long before man was created. Adam himself was created from the dust of this earth, and YAHWEH CREATED him with intellegence, walking upright.
Man did not come out of the trees. As much as some of us want to try to prove that we did!!! Thus, it is the ignorance of men who have rejected YAHWEH and the TRUTH found in the Scriptures that has caused people to believe such stupidity as to think that we came from apes!!!

~I'm sure anything untrue will come up with rumours to hold it up anyway it can.
I know evolution is taught in schools, which is really sad. Apes are most like humans, I guess that's how people get the connection. I hope people don't pay attention in biology class like you people.~

Christians understand the difference. In the formative stages of the theory all classrooms contained charts that showed direct descent. To say Christians do not know this is to employ a deceitful tactic.
Rather than throw around accusations of stupidity or ignorance, why not present what you know to be your truthful understanding of the matter for debate? How about some in-depth education here?

The theory of human evolution does not say that human beings came from apes. It says that we share a common ancestor with apes...whatever that ancestor might be. They say that apes, chimpanzees, etc, are our closest living relatives in the animal kingdom. We do share approximately 98 point something percent of our (active?) DNA with Chimpanzees, or so I've heard. This theory in no way conflicts with my faith. I believe that human beings are the children of a loving Heavenly Father (God). I believe Adam and Eve were the first spirit children of Heavenly Father to live on this earth and the primary parent of the human race. Heavenly Father said "Let us make man in our image." If he used evolution to craft the bodies he would eventually send our spirits down to earth to live in, that in no way conflicts with the scriptures. What about all of those hominids (human-like creatures) that existed before the reign of Adam and Eve? I have no idea. I don't think that they were the children of God as all of us are who share Adam and Eve as the primal parents of our kind of species. Inside of us is a spirit, and that spirit is a child of God. These are some of my thoughts. God bless you.

Sincerely

Arthur :)

Because we have our facts all messed-up. Apes never questioned the fact that they are apes. Now why mankind contemplates the fact that we ARE humans... well that exceeds my knowledge.
Evolution means that we have certain specifications ( DNA\RNA blue print-consciousness units) and we are designed to take it from there into a higher level, to evolve from one view point to an other that includes past, present and future knowledge and so on. Darwin must have been nuts not to wonder who created the first unit of consciousness before jumping into all the wrong conclusion that led mankind into a bottomless pit of ignorance.

Ok hold it there for a second, the theory of evolution and as proposed by Darwin states that we all desended from a common ancestor and that they evolved from one another by means of natural selection.
Since the turn of the last century this theory was used to state without any doubt that human beings were decended from Apes, but this keeps changing from theory to theory now.
The fact that we have yet to discover the missing link that was promised for decades has rendered this inadeqate.
Then we had the possiblity of transitional forms of the Neo-Darwinists which again has led to disapointment in evolutionist circles and so we then saw the birth of `Punctuated Equilibrium` which as I am sure you know proposed that living beings evolved into another species without transitional forms at all and as this theory is so close to actual creation it too has been abandoned, and so now we have moved on to `Abiogenesis`
You cannot have it all your own way and keep moving the goalposts everytime your theories fall flat.
No Christian believer is going to accept evolution theory because up to now that`s all you have, creation is still more reliable and believable for us.

I think the term "shares a common ancestor with" is one that they're just passing acquaintances with.

They didn't pay attention. They pick and choose what they want to hear then they leave saying the person told them humans used to be monkeys!

It annoys me when people say evolution doesn't exist at all b/c they think evolution means humans came from apes. Hello! Evolution is real people! We wouldn't have 100+ species of dogs if it wasn't. OK, I'm done with my rant now.
