paxil can take from three to six weeks to build a level that is effective, depending on how severe the depression is. What it is NOT, is a "happy pill". Antidepressants help to straighten up your neuro chemicals so you can think straight. They will not make you happy. You need to get into therapy and deal with your issues, the pills alone won't do the trick. They only make it possible for you to think straight so you can deal with your issues.

You will not feel "happy" when they do start to work. I have been on them, and Paxil makes it where you can function where you feel like getting out of bed, and life is worth living. It will be almost two weeks before you will really be able to tell you arent' feeling like you are one of the living dead any longer. I also found out that exercise beats taking anti-depressants any day and works better.

Paxil takes atleast a week or two to kick in.

Are you going to abuse it? If you are then you need to take atleast 20 mg - 30 mg depending on you're weight, but I stongly advise you don't abuse it, there are better SSRI's out there.
