I noticed an odor in my urine. I drank a LOT of water, until my urine was practically clear. The odor is still there. What could this be? I have changed my diet to eating healthier. But not dramatically?

Often times, there is something specific that you ate which causes a strong odor in your urine. One that is especially famous for this is ASPARAGUS. If you have eaten that recently, that is almost surely the reason.

If not, I would go and get checked out at the doctor. You could have some kind of urinary tract infection or yeast infection. They will know what to look for.

I have noticed that the "aparagus smell" rarely lasts more than about 24 hours or so, so if it is longer than that, you need to be checked.

Urine odor is related to the volume and concentration of a variety of chemicals excreted by the kidney. Normally, diluted urine doesn't have much odor. If you're dehydrated and your urine becomes highly concentrated, it can have a strong ammonia smell. Many foods and medications — such as asparagus or certain vitamins — also can affect the odor of urine. Most changes in urine odor are temporary and don't indicate serious illness. But sometimes an unusual urine odor can be associated with an underlying medical condition, such as a urinary tract infection. If you're concerned about the odor of your urine, talk to your doctor. The nitrogen waste product of ammonia does have a characteristic smell but is usually not that offensive. Urinary tract infections, vaginal infections can produce a foul smelling urine depending on the infecting organism. Often there are accompanying symptoms of urge, frequency, dysuria(painful urination) with Urinaty Track Infection’s.

a strong odor like that probably indicates a low grade chronic infection, that or you have been eating foods with alot of sulfonamides, like asparagus, broccoli, cabbage etc, those things will cause a strong ammonia odor.

it would be a good idea to make an appointment with your doctor so they can do a test for a urinary track infection.
sometimes it may be just due to diet change, especially if you've added a lot of greenery or if you've started vitamins, or any other supplements, BUT get tested and take a list of frequent foods you eat and any vits or supplements with you to show to the doctor. --c
