i know that current events can change the preacher's topic, but under normal situations how is it chosen? is there some sort of schedule that is followed, or is it just random topics?

Believe it not, there is a website that some use for the subject of their sermons. The minister tailors it to fit the sermon for the way his followers believe. My cousin, why was one before dying last year, told me they use the internet to get their sermons. I thought this was probably not the case, and him joking, until my mom and I were watching TV ministry. We saw 3 different churches, Baptist, Luthern, and Interdominational, have the same subject matter for their sermons that day.

The pastors at my church had an every-other-Sunday deal going where they would switch off. They had it planned out a year in advance (the titles at least, because they were printed in a handbook) although I think the actual content of the sermons was written somewhat later. One of the pastors was the quintessential last-minute guy, and I bet a lot of his stuff was written on Saturdays.

The sermons would be tailored to the season; Jesus' ministry up through Easter, more general theological/ philosophical stuff up through Pentecost, usually more worldly stuff in the fall, and the Christmas stuff was pretty micromanaged, as I'm sure it is pretty much everywhere.

Sometimes we are given a topic by the senior minister but most of the time, I have been given my sermon material through the Holy Spirit while spending time reading the Bible and praying. Hope that clarifies it for you. God bless

When I am reading the Word, a sermon will just come from it. Sometimes it just for me, and sometimes it is for the church. If I see something that jumps out at me, I start studying it and praying and seeing what it is that the Lord is trying to show me. It really is an amazing thing, to have the bible work active in your life, or through you to someone else.

Most go from the heart. Some will have a sermon planned out but go along with what the Holy spirit tells em.
