I can never figure out where they come up with all that stuff, we all know God doesn't need it. I think people just like that stuff and cluster all their institutions with pompous ceremony

Even with eloborate ritualistic weddings, divorces are on the increase. That apart, if you have a gender, a complexion, and a dress required, and a name and form, God will also have all that. Man is Mini God, and God is Macro Infinite man. Similiar to you having a bath, dressing and make-up, God in your imagination would require all that. How did you come to know that a pious person who did not offer a laddu made God angry? What is the methodology to know that. Imaginary questions can be answered by fantasy answers. Traditions are being broken, leading to secular nonsense. We have got to keep the traditions alive, and at the same time make an honest attempt to understand it. You could have vey well questioned the Purohits or the poojaris performing the marriage as to what ritual means what. Next time if there is a chance, and somebody good enough to listen,& if you are lucky enquire and get the answers.

I personally dont believe in rituals at all, and I am certainly not an atheist, in fact I have tangibly felt the presence of God's influence in my life, many times. However rituals help certain people focus the mind on God. In any event, as long as rituals are not imposed on others or harmful to others, how does it matter who does what ? Let everyone be happy doing what they want to attain God as long as does not trample on others. If performing rituals give people hope, what is wrong ? Its a good thing and besides it contributes to the economy by providing business for ritual related materials. Think about it.

The rituals probably did not make sense because you did not understand the meaning behind them. Those that did, probably thought it was beautiful. Rituals are more for us than they are for God.
No ritual is required to connect with God. Just a matter of getting real with Him. God is not human, but we were made in His image. He has shown the same traits we feel- anger, love, sadness, hatred, etc in the Bible. He does know who is good automatically, as well as those who will accept His Son.
Being good is simply not good enough. First, we need to be forgiven. We are born in "sin", separated from God.
When we have wronged someone (sin), we first must want to restore our relationship with that person. We probably will feel sorry for whatever offense we have done that caused our separation from them. We would express this to them, and try to make amends, to restore our trust with one another once again. That is repentance. Christ died to pay the price, to make amends for you with God. Believing this, with a true desire and repentance in your heart, all that remains for you to connect with God is asking that God forgive you. Not a ritual.. just a one time thing.
There is a living God, waiting for anyone who will believe and accept His mercy and grace through His son Jesus Christ. The bit of faith it takes to accept this possibility with a repentant heart is all that is required. He stands at the door and knocks... will you let Him in?

I do not know which marriage you have attended, i.e. Hindu, Christian or Muslim. These rituals have lot of significance. There will be several oaths taken by the couple.
Since God is not in any form one has to experience only with feeling. Rituals are required to prepare the body to experience such feelings and to understand them.

No need to offer god. He didn't ask you. But if you have a friend and in home with you. You share your food and clothes. It is the same with god, We offer food to god as we have him in praying room. God is a good friend.
Regarding rituals, It is their and their parents belife. So if you don;t understand it. Better ask a poojari. So you would know the meaning. If you cannot belive, it is best to avoide it. No hurting. Just my point of view. Sorry if i hurt anyone here.

Rituals are just nonsense. they claim to go nearer to God but its just the priests wasting our time. God did not make rituals, man made them. Yes in hinduism there is a lot of rituals, that are meaningless and just waste our time. yes, i went to an hindu wedding this year and yes there was too many rites and rituals, it really did annoy me, a waste of 3/4 hours.

we enjoy life in various manners. We go hiking, we go to parks, play games, joke with friends. Rituals are for the same except it is to enjoy andbe in the company of God. Well its also a way to make our sense do services to Him. Rituals are for having fun with God. Donot take too much of scientific reasonings there.

Rituals are to give comfort to many who find comfort is structure. Personally, I can't stand rituals on one hand and on the other hand, I acknowledge that most humans have a need for it.
I think we are "hardwired" for religious experience and the need to have ritual to mark various events.
There's MUCH more to the "hard wiring" concept in many journals.

I think a lot of times, people perform rituals to draw glory to themselves, not to God. God doesn't require anything besides faith.

God does not require rituals, but rather a personal relationship and belief.
