just curious. The thought popped in my head just now because it's such a common phrase to say. Especially when you sneeze.

Not one bit. I even say thank you.

And here I was trying to prove that not believing in god doesn't necessarily make one an ill-mannered boor.
Warren B, you have been reported. For @$$holiness.

Why should it particularly offend? Besides, just in case he does exist - take the blessing. Every day at work people say "Good morning" to me about ten times and then "Have a good evening" and "Have a nice week-end" "See you Monday" this repetitive meaningless ritual is more annoying than hearing "God Bless You" every once in a while.

Why would you be offended by something that you supposedly believe does not exist?

No. I'm not that sensitive. It's not as if the person means any harm by saying "God Bless." Also - I'm a woman, but it doesn't offend me if someone refers to humans as "mankind." No harm.

I'm totally NOT religious...but I really don't mind. Same with "Merry Christmas" because seriously it's not on my big list of nerve grinding things. Being told I'm going to hell every time I walk down Bourbon Street is another thing.

Depends on how its said. If it's said with a condescending tone, then yeah definately. However, I do realize most people just as a way of wishing you well.

I don't really care what you say as long as the meaning isn't to be mean. If the words were exchanged with FU, but they were meant for showing that they wanted to be kind to you then I wouldn't see it any different.

Nope.

It's common parlance. When someone sneezes, I just say gesundheit.
