Well, it depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for performance....definitely go for a Dodge SRT-4. You probably won't be able to get a 2006 or 07 (the Caliber version) for under $20,000, but you can get an '05. It's a beast version of the Neon, turbocharged (230 horsepower stock), Viper racing seats, CD changer, manual...but if you wanna go the other way and get something that's very economical on gas get a Toyota Prius that is about 2 or 3 years old. You should be able to snag a fulled loaded one for about 17 grand, I'd say. You'll get 50+ miles to the gallon and a not-so-bad looking car. The in-between cars would be the Scion tC (base around 16g's) xB (base 13 g's), which you could add on a lot of things from the factory. I almost got a tC. But the Scion reps are relentless on the MSRP, so beware. The Honda Elements are a versatile SUV. Good gas milage (25+), lots of options and pretty cool looking, if you're into that sorta thing. Check kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book) to confirm these prices. It's a must when I shop for cars. That way you know what the invoice price is for the cars on the lot (you know what they bought 'em for). NEVER PAY RETAIL!! I hope that helps a little bit. PS....you can never go wrong with a Honda Civic.

Gotta circulate with Mikey in this one, those days the place the corporate headquarters are or the place the enterprise began potential easily no longer something anymore. Toyota began development automobiles thoroughly in the States (in part as a results of fact replaced into one difficulty they had to fulfill with a view to be allowed to race in NASCAR) and extremely some american automobiles have maximum of their factors synthetic outdoors the States. (Chevy automobiles are outfitted in Canada and Mexico) circulate to each and all the dealerships, tell the sellers the right same situation, "What automobiles do you have on the lot that are 2 yrs previous or much less, have some ultimate production unit guarantee, 4 doors, twin airbags, ABS below $20K". force even in the event that they have and circulate directly to the subsequent dealership. Take a laptop with you and write down what you like/dislike approximately each and each motor vehicle you force. circulate homestead and get on the internet and learn the right 3 automobiles based on your testdrives. look into resale values, everyday upkeep costs, coverage fee ameliorations between fashions, etc. then you definately could make an cautioned determination.

Your question is too broad. It's like asking, "what shirt should I buy for $30?". There are too many unanswered details to give a meaningful answer. But I'll take a stab...

Since you want a stick shift, you probably want something sporty and fast. I'd recommend a used Subaru WRX (Impreza). Very quick, good handling, AWD. They go for $25-30k new, but you can probably get a 2 year old model for under $20k.
