I live on my own and do not receive financial help from my parents. What do I have to do to apply with FAFSA if I am an independent, 22 paying his own way?

I don't know if you can if you're under 25.
I know in Washington they won't consider you independent unless you're over 25 or married. It doesn't matter if they don't give you a single penny.
That's what really screws me over, because I don't qualify for anything but loans because my 'rents made too much last year.
Talk to the FinAid advisors at your school. They should be able to help you.

unless you are married or have a child, sorry to tell you but you are not independent for fin aid purposes. for the IRS, yes you are. For FAFSA, not yet. The two have nothing to do with one another. Until the govt wants their money back, that is.
