I have three windows side by side in my living room, with the center window being about twice as big as the two side windows. There a spaced fairly close together. What is the best way to dress them?

OK, shades and blinds, although they can also be attractive, they are mostly for a function...to keep out light and for privacy. If you like a minimalist look, that's the way to go. However, if you are looking to decorate, here is some advise:
Treating the whole triple window as one large window will make the window appear larger, and will give you more of a view and light. Treating each of the 3 separately will make the whole set of three look smaller, and will cut down on your view and light.
To treat as one large window, try some side panels only on the outer right and left edges, and you can add a valance across the whole top to tie it all together....you can put that valance across the entire top on a separate rod, or you can put the valance on the same rod in between the two side panels. Or, you can just go with the two side panels, but I would suggest a decorative rod in that case, since so much of it would be showing. You could always use blinds or shades as well, for the practicality of light control and privacy.
To treat as three separate windows, try a panel on each outer edge and a panel in between each window, for a total of four panels. Again, you can go with a valance or not, same as I detailed before.
For the best look, have the panels go pretty much to the floor, which would be about an inch off the floor. That will give your windows a real finished look. Also, if you decide to go with valances in between the panels, be sure that the header (the little ruffled part above the rod where you gather the valance onto the rod) is the same as the header on the panels, so you get a uniform look.
Good luck, and have fun!

There are many different kinds of window fashions out in the market now if you do not want to go with just curtians.

I have fitted triple windows for many customers using - Faux Wood blinds, Real Wood blinds, Roller Shades and even Verticles with a 3 section draw (so they can open up the sides for ventilation, thats where small windows opended but the middle one didn't).
You could with installing Pleated Shades, Cellular Shades (which can offer an R factor to your windows for energy savings depending on what kind you get).
Any of the above can be mounted inside or outside your window frame depending on its size and you can get all 3 sections to work independent of eachother.
I'm not sure where you live but here is a web site for you to look at some of these types of window fashions. Plus - if you can't get them the right size in the store for your window then you can custom order them - some stores have the ability to custom cut many of the above kinds.

I have a similar situation with a bay window in my living room. I ordered accordian type shades from Lowe's. They installed them for us. They are beautiful. I can open them in the daytime and have a nice view out my windows all day, then at night close them and have complete privacy. When they are open they fold so tightly together you can hardly tell there are blinds at all. They come in every style and color you could want. They also block out sun if that's a problem. It's the only way to go.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/U7lsY
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.
