You are allergic to cat hair. So wipe your cat with a damp cloth. Wash you hands after petting her and don't let her fur get near your face. My sister has the same thing with our cat but she i okay as long as she washes her hands and doesn't get cat fur very close to her face.

Yup, it is an antigen in the cats saliva that causes allergies in people. You come into contact with the cat or its hair (which it has licked from grooming) and you have an allergic reaction. Most cats will just lick themselves even more after a bath, so this is a temporary fix. You may need to contact an allergy specialist to help you deal with your allergic reactions if you want to keep your cat!

Animal allergies don't have anything to do with them being 'dirty.' It's about dander - all animals have it - its their skin flakes. Some animals are bred to have less dander (hairless cats and dogs, certain dog breeds). If you are determined to keep your cat, try the following: a vacuum with a true Hepa filter, allergen reducing Febreze daily, dusting/mopping/vacuuming/cleaning blinds and curtains regularly and an allergy reducing laundry detergent, like All Free and Clear. If your allergies are severe, you may need to see you doctor or an allergy specialist for a daily pill. Over the counter allergy remedies are intended for short term use only. Good Luck.

that would probably be because you are allergic to her. Its not because she is dirty that you are allergic otherwise you would be allergic to the dirt on her not her. Most people are allergic to the dander on the cat or the cats dried saliva that is on her fur. I would be willing to guess that you just have a cat allergy.

Ummm, maybe you ARE allergic to her? A lot of people are allergic to cats. It's not the hair but the dander (small bits of dead skin) that you'd be allergic to. Your doctor can do a test to find out if you're allergic to cats.

It's not dirt that triggers your allergy it's the cats saliva dried in it's coat. If you wash or brush it out daily it may lessen your reaction.
