When can you tell if your newborn kittens are male or female?

I'm wondering if my cat's newborns are male or female. Also, when can I hold one in my hand?

You can touch them now if mom isn't upset by it, but keep it short. They can't stay warm by themselves yet (that's why they pile together like sardines). You can tell now, but it's difficult: basically if you compare the kittens side by side (rump toward you lol) there's a larger distance from butt to peepee in boys and a shorter distance in females.

An experienced breeder can tell right away, but it is tricky in newborns. If you wait a few weeks it will be much easier to tell. You can gently hold them any time for short periods if the mothe isn't upset by it. Not too much right now, but more as they get older. It is good to socialize them between 2-7 weeks by lots of gentle handling.

U can hold immediately. Not for long and make sure u wash ur hands first. When they get about 2-3 weeks old hold one up with butt facing u. If u see to holes one on top of other (a space of course) then u have girl. If u see a hole (butthole) then a fuzzy round thing u have a boy.

You can tell in about 3 weeks and that's when you should start to hold or touch them ' as before then mama cat will go hide them and everyone gets stressed out you included as you won;t know where the family went' and you don;t want to step on them...you can talk to mama and kitty;s from afar so they get used to human voices,,,some mom cats will abandon kittens when touched by humans and they might die as they need mama;s milk and her devoted love...good luck with your cat family ,.,

I would wait until their eyes open it'd be easier to tell then opposed to 1 day old kittens, and as for handling them you might want to wait until their eyes open which is normally around 7 to 10 days.

with newborns its really hard to tell, wait a few weeks, anyways you might not want to pick them up, the mother can be a bit over protective
