Yes when you go on your Instant Messenger page look at the small gray box it will say enter a number type the phone number and then left click and go to SIM Send Instant Mess

Use Yahoo they have just what you want and it free from Yahoo.... Your Phone Company may charge you, but i use a Pocket PC and find a open Router and log onto Yahoo and read my text or Messages, does not cost a Dime...

I dont think that needs any program. Where is your country?
And what kind of cellphone do they have?
If their cellphone is accompanied with Cellphone Emails, then you can directly send him emails from your computer to their celfone-ad.
Here in Japan for example, all cellphones have emails, so we can directly mail to cellfon holders from our computers..
And they can reply back just easily.
