What is the origin of these 'blue laws' and do you feel that your religion should be imposed upon others?

I am not a 'drunk' (I drink, but very little).
The issue is not the beer itself, or even the minor inconvenience.

The issue is that people think it is OK to impose religious laws on everyone in this country. Observant Jews will not drive (among other things) on the sabbath -as it is considered 'work'. Mind if I pass a law that nobody should drive on the sabbath?

Even though I don't believe alchohol is right, I disagree with forcing anyone to do anything, here in the USA or elsewhere.
What are you gonna do when the sunday law comes around and we're all suppose to go to church or go to jail???

Man made the sunday laws. Sunday became the popular day of choice to close shops etc when the catholic church changed the Ten Commandments and turned the Sabbath of saturday into sunday. Most non christians buy their stuff before shops close anyway...perhaps you could get your beer before shops close.
What people forget is that some countries were founded by christians ..but then some people decided to want rules for them being non believers too..then we get people from other countries with other religions and they want rules for them too..now we just have a whole garbage system of rules. In effect it was the non believers of christianity who started the messup..since the countries were meant to be christian countries...maybe the non believers should have gone to a non believing country instead of coming along with the christians to a country they knew was going to have rules according to christianity..well thats my thinking anyway.

You live in an area where the law says you can't buy beer on Sunday.
I'm pretty sure that is a Christian-inspired law.
If Christianity didn't run pretty deep with our roots as a nation, there probably wouldn't be any blue laws.
So, since you live in a place where there are blue laws, you know first hand that we are, indeed, a Christian nation.
Hey, unless you are an alcoholic, you should be able to figure it out. Buy your Sunday beer on Saturday.
A no-brainer.

Actually, members of my church buy beer. I don't know when but they do. It's because Jesus used wine in the bible and there is no specific reading in some interpretation about beer unless you count getting drunk which is a sin. Obviously, you can still do this on Sunday and you're a Christian. It depends upon the views that particular church holds.
And no, I don't think people should openly share their own veiws on other. Imposing beliefs is against free which goes against the Bible.

In Georgia, the origin of blue laws was religion, but now its money. Yes, money.

The truth is, the booze industry in Georgia still wants Sunday as a day of rest because its their only day off - let me explain....their business is based so much upon cash..they do not trust any employee (probably with good reason) so they want at least one day during the week that they do not have to check up on the package store.

There you go. Yep.

I agree. It's a ridiculous law. I could buy alcohol on Saturday and drink it on Sunday, if I wanted to. Eventually laws like this will be seen as old fashioned and not so good for business.

Because your are a drunk and society wants you to sober up on Sunday so you can go to work on Monday to buy your booze we do not want you to go on Government aid then we will all be buying you booze out of our taxes. So we will call this sober Sunday. Besides an intelligent alcoholic would be smart enough to figure out you need to buy enough booze on Saturday to last through Sunday, while you are there pick up some of those little paper bags to put your Thunderbird in..Remember a pickled liver is not a happy liver.

To Remember the Sabbath and to keep it holy. Everything closed, no work, go to worship.

Work 6 days and rest on the 7thday. GOD started the first union laws so the family could rest and worship together.

And you don't need beer, try carrot juice.

Buy what you need on Saturday, that way you won't be without beer on Sunday.
