It is my understanding that these religions are more communal with nature and balance and harmony, I have seen many people on here saying mean things to others, especially those of other organized religions. It is my undestanding that mother earth and love for one another is foremost. Your thoughts?

I am a Pagan born and bred. I have witnessed the kind of behaviour you speak of coming from all religions and faiths. I hope you find the following interesting. To me it is what being a Pagan is all about.

* I am a Pagan and I dedicate Myself to channelling the Spiritual Energy of my Inner Self to help and to heal myself and others.

* I know that I am a part of the Whole of Nature. May I grow in understanding of the Unity of all Nature. May I always walk in Balance.

* May I always be mindful of the diversity of Nature as well as its Unity and may I always be tolerant of those whose race, appearance, sex, sexual preference, culture, and other ways differ from my own.

* May I use the Force wisely and never use it for aggression nor for malevolent purposes. May I never direct it to curtail the free will of another.

* May I always be mindful that I create my own reality and that I have the power within me to create positivity in my life.

* May I always act in honorable ways: being honest with myself and others, keeping my word whenever I have given it, fulfilling all responsibilities and commitments I have taken on to the best of my ability.

* May I always remember that whatever is sent out always returns magnified to the sender. May the Forces of Karma move swiftly to remind me of these spiritual commitments when I have begin to falter from them, and may I use this Karmic feedback to help myself grow and be more attuned to my Inner Pagan Spirit.

* May I always remain strong and committed to my Spiritual ideals in the face of adversity and negativity. May the Force of my Inner Spirit ground out all malevolence directed my way and transform it into positivity. May my Inner Light shine so strongly that malevolent forces can not even approach my sphere of existence.

* May I always grow in Inner Wisdom & Understanding. May I see every problem that I face as an opportunity to develop myself spiritually in solving it.

* May I always act out of Love to all other beings on this Planet -- to other humans, to plants, to animals, to minerals, to elementals, to spirits, and to other entities.

* May I always be mindful that the Goddess and God in all their forms dwell within me and that this divinity is reflected through my own Inner Self, my Pagan Spirit.

* May I always channel Love and Light from my being. May my Inner Spirit, rather than my ego self, guide all my thoughts, feelings, and actions.

I was just thinking the same thing! you don't even have to say what religion you are and someone is ready to jump all over you! I am a Christian myself and am shocked and saddened by even most of their answers and questions. My guess is that they are insecure in their religion and feel the need to bash someone else's to make them feel better. You know like back in grade school when someone would pick on a kid because they wanted something the other had?

I think maybe Y! Answers should split the religions up or something. Anything to stop the hate and anger that this category is creating.

(I wounder how many thumbs down I'll get for this answer?)

that was quick the first one came in 10 min LOL

I would first be concerned. After finding out what you were saying, I would form an opinion. I do not believe that proselyticing, evangelizing, or sending missionaries is the best thing to do - so I probably would be interested in what you were doing. If it seemed that you were being judgemental or pressuring people, or that you were harming others in some way, I would not like it at all. I would applaud your efforts if you were offering simple education about what you believe and if you told of your experiences. Once you crossed into telling other people what they should believe, I'd get alittle pissy.

Personally speaking as a Pagan I can't say I spend any time being angry or rude to people of other faiths. Quite the opposite! I try to have an understanding of other peoples chosen paths - I have even been to visit the local Mosque and had a discussion with Imam (that proved interesting!).

It upsets me when someone chooses to berate me over my religion, but I will listen to what they have to say and I will not belittle their beliefs.

All people feel emotions and a lot of people get defensive when they think that they are/may be being attacked. Also, remember that tone inflection is missing when words are typed instead of spoken. Sometimes jokes are missed this way...

This it true of all people regardless of religion, sex, or race. Some people are more defensive then other, but that mostly has to do with past experiences then anything else.

I run hot and cold depending on what people say and how offensive they are. I see nothing wrong with there being multiple religions, but when people say that their religion is the only one and they say that Pagans and witches are evil, I tend to get really hot.

This planet is big enough for all of us.

Yes people say mean things sometimes and it is usually in response to someone saying mean things to us first.

Keep in mind, the christian belief system says they think they are better than we are simply because they claim christianity.

Every time I see someone ask a real question trying to really learn something about it, the vast majority of the answers are from christians shoving their believes down our throats.

Just tonight, one sweet lovable christian lady told us in no uncertain terms we did not have a right to be on R&S.

Add in personal experiences off yahoo, like having to call the police because of a christian church refusing to stay off my property only to be told by the police that they didn't hurt anything so they were not going to do anything about it and this was after I had filed over 2 dozen complaints against them.

It's easy to see we are tired of it.

You aren't speaking of all Pagans. Not all of Paganism is Earth centered and pacifistic.

Me personally? Because it's fun.

You can only read so many times that you're going to burn in hell for your beliefs, when these people have never even met you before, you automatically switch into self-defense mode.

I guess the same reason that some Christians are so angry. Some people are just angry.

When you revere the earth, and one of the recent 'fundementalist fun films' (Jesus Camp) has some suited creep saying "Rape the Earth, we won't be here for long anyway" (In the sense of expecting the rapture) its kind of maddening.
