find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

You can try the old standbys like putting a nude photo of yourself on the refrigerator. But often the most helpful thing is to have a friend or friends who are doing the same thing and can help you keep on track.

But whatever you do is probably not going to work as long as you keep defining a diet as something you do differently that regular eating. If you do, then every time you go off the "diet" you will gain the weight back. What you need is to develop a plan of healthy eating for life.

Don't expect yourself to completely go cold turkey on all of the foods you enjoy. It's hard to stick to a diet when you're only eating foods that you can't stand.

Just make smarter choices about what you already eat, and that should have a significant impact on your weight. If you must drink soda, make sure it's diet and drink 3 glasses of water for every soda you have to stay hydrated (soda dehydrates you). Switch out your sugar for Splenda, your milk for light soy milk (low in calories, tastes really good, and is high in protein). Give up coffee and try tea instead. Try Lean Cuisine for a couple of meals.

Just find something that you know you'll be able to stick to. All juice diets and the like are not reasonable.

Good luck!

Depending on how much weight you wish to lose, dont be too concerned with sticking to a "diet."

At 17 you really need to just get out an exercise more - you body it still young enough to increase its own metabolism - so long as you just get out a do stuff.

It does not have to be anything crazy like a full blown workout -try long intense walks (Find a challening path or somewhere with lots of hills)

Adjust your food intake too - consider replacing a meal with a large protein shake after your workouts.

Here are a few recipes:

11/2 cup Ice
1 whole banana
2 cup Soy Milk or regular milk
+powder (Whey Protein powder)

1 1/2 cup ice
2 cups Soy Milk or regular Milk
1/2 cup yogurt (pick you flavor)
+powder

1-2 cup ice
2 cups OJ
1 whole banana
1 pack instant oatmeal (any flavor)
+powder

I mix these up at east 4 -5 times a week . My family and I love them.

we use the Body Fortress Whey Protein powder - GOOD STUFF!! You can pick it up at Walmart . It comes in a big bottle, and really helps the body burn fat after workouts, while building muscle.

The goal here is to increase your muscle mass because fat does not burn itself off, only muscles can burn fat, so we need to try and build you muslces to help increase you eventual fat burn.

This is not something that will happen over night either - you need to stick with it for several months...if you do, I promise you will see positive results!!!

Good luck to you!!!!

I started by buying clothes a size too small, and stopping eating any fast food. I also kept busy all day long. Small portions, no seconds and no soda at all. I am a coffee drinking fiend, but I cut out the mochas and things like that, and I reduced the sugar in my coffee by half. I also got a scrip for Welbutrin. I dropped 43 lbs of post baby fat in 3 months. I still need to tone up, but im now in a size 3 at age 38 after 5 kids. Every time I feel the urge to go nuts on food, I look at pictures of myself post weight loss, cures me everytime. No muffin top here!

Hi dear,
Don't consider going on diets.. I see diets as setting goals that most people will fail at.
You have to change your eating habits and start working out.

A plan that works for me.
I drink lots of tea even in the summer time.try to drink tea or water before having a meal.
Mix juices with water and lemon (never have them straight)
Eat only wheat bread and crackers and brown rice.
Cut down on your servings of carbohydrates -Substitute with vegetables..
FORGET SODAS for at least 2 months.
I have some recipes that you will love.
When in doubt --don't eat out..
Make your own lunch as you will save money and lose weight.

Stick to a 1,200 calorie diet and eat whatever as long as it's below that calorie amount.

Eat smaller portions, rather than giving up what you like eating. Eat lots of salads with chicken and cheese but no croutons. It's filling and you feel satisfied without eating more junk food.
