I'm really worried they'll think that, but I wanted to make cute announcements that talked about what I did this year to send to everyone with my new Senior Portrait and stuff. I'm worried I'm being rude/implying I want money because my mom told me that that's how she feels when people send her grad announcements. I don't know what to do! It seems silly not to send out letters because of that.

Congratulations! You have every right to be proud of graduating. Send the announcements! It's the expected thing to do. By sending your update and Senior portrait, it doesn't mean that they have to give you money. Many will enjoy hearing about this milestone in your life and will want to send you something. It may be a small gift or it may be money. They may want to attend your graduation ceremony and feel slighted if they don't receive an announcement. Others will just read the announcement and you won't hear from them. It's their choice, but do give them the choice.
I am always proud of any person who doesn't quit school and usually send a card and some cash to help them start in whatever direction they want to go.

Just for the record, my Mother said the same thing, but finally decided it was ok to send my announcements. Besides, she received announcements from many of their kids for graduation, birth, marriage, etc., so it works both ways.
The only way you would be rude is to skip sending the thank-you notes to the gift givers. If they are nice enough to give a gift, then it is only right to take time to let them know that you appreciate it.

Heck yeah, you should have a party for graduating. In fact, I think college parties should be more important than high school parties. These days, just about everyone graduates from high school - big deal. A college degree is a lot harder to obtain and should definitely be celebrated. Plus, people don't come out of high school in debt from student loans and expenses. You need a party to hopefully raise some money!!! Good luck, hopefully your family has a similar view as me and will throw you a party.

No. Graduation is a big deal in a persons life. It is a major accomplishment--plus it is the last school picture you will have so most relatives who haven't gotten a picture of you in a long time would appreciate a current picture of you.

It's just like wedding invitations. You are merely wanting to inform those who are related to you where you are at this point in your life.

A lil letter telling them where you are going to college; if you are moving out, giving your address; explaining what you plan on doing with life now that you are an adult--that is completely appropriate and I know I appreciate those updates on what is up in relatives lives.

Your relatives will be proud of you. I love to get grad announcements from friends and family. I never feel obligated to send money, if I can I will.

i have recieved announcements in the past, some of them graduation announcements... it has never crossed my mind that they ( friends and relatives ) were asking for money... i`ve also sent out my own announcements... ( anniversaries, kids graduations, baptism... ) and it was never my intention to ask for money and i never recieved any either...

i guess it boils down to the person you are... if you send out announcements for the purpose of recieving money, it would make sense that if you do recieve these announcements you would percieve that these people are asking you for some...

it is a fact that most people just send out announcements for what they are... that these are just messages of pride bec of certain accomplishment, or messages of happiness because of some events...

Send them anyway, even if that is what people think. I have received 4 of them so far, and am sending a bit of money in each of them.
People expect graduates to announce it.

Have your mom write a note on it saying no gifts are necessary since she's the one who put the worry in your head.
