The Roman Catholic Church contends that its origin is the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ in approximately 30 A.D. The Catholic Church proclaims itself to be the Church that Jesus Christ died for, the Church that was established and built by the Apostles. Is that the true origin of the Catholic Church? On the contrary. Even a cursory reading of the New Testament will reveal that the Catholic Church does not have its origin in the teachings of Jesus, or His apostles. In the New Testament, there is no mention of the papacy, worship / adoration of Mary (or the immaculate conception of Mary, the perpetual virginity of Mary, the assumption of Mary, or Mary as co-redemptrix and mediatrix), petitioning saints in Heaven for their prayers, apostolic succession, the ordinances of the church functioning as sacraments, infant baptism, confession of sin to a priest, purgatory, indulgences, or the equal authority of church tradition and Scripture.

For the first 280 years of Christian history, Christianity was banned by the Roman empire, and Christians were terribly persecuted. This changed after the “conversion” of the Roman Emperor Constantine. Constantine “legalized” Christianity at the Edict of Milan in A.D. 313. Later, in A.D. 325, Constantine called together the Council of Nicea, in an attempt to unify Christianity. Constantine envisioned Christianity as a religion that could unite the Roman Empire, which at that time was beginning to fragment and divide. While this may have seemed to be a positive development for the Christian church, the results were anything but positive. Just as Constantine refused to fully embrace the Christian faith, but continued many of his pagan beliefs and practices, so the Christian church that Constantine promoted was a mixture of true Christianity and Roman paganism.

Jesus established a church and He placed His church into the hands of Peter the Apostle. That church is the Holy Roman Catholic Church. The Catholic Church has existed for over 2000 years.

Around or about 45 AD, Peter went to Rome and from there lead the Catholic Church. As of today, there have been 263 Popes in direct succession to Peter. The position of Pope was established by Christ and the office has been maintained in an apostolic manner since the time of Christ.

I wish I could do this topic more justice, but I really think the wikipedia entry covers it best. To be general about it, however, the Catholic Church was the first Christian denomination to come about. The first known mention of this title was in a letter by Ignatius of Antioch. I should also add that bishops are considered to be the general successors of the original Apostles, and the Pope is St. Peter's successor (leader of the Apostles/bishops).

The gates of hell will not prevail against the Church which means that the Church will never fall into apostasy.

Jesus promised to be with his Church until the end of the age.

The Scriptures record that the Church is the "bulwark and Ground of the truth".

Jesus prayed His last prayer in the garden that we all be one.

Therefore the Catholic Church is the only church created by God and all other churches are founded by men with out the promises of our Lord and Savior.

Hello Sheree, the rcc or roman catholic church came into true existence roughly 325 ad with the council of Nicea. The position of pope wasn't added until 608 ad when boniface proclaimed himself "papa" or universal bishop. Until this time there had been no such thing. In the first century Paul had to deal with people trying to follow others instead of Christ (1 Cor 1:12-13, 3: 4-5). These same people later began teaching false doctrine like is found in (1 Timothy 4:1-3). below i will provide you a link that talks about the rcc.

"The origin and growth of the Church are symbolized by the blood and water which flowed from the open side of the crucified Jesus."

"For it was from the side of Christ as he slept the sleep of death upon the cross that there came forth the ‘wondrous sacrament’ of the whole Church.”

As Eve was formed from the sleeping Adam's side, so the Church was born from the pierced heart of Christ hanging dead on the cross.

The Roman Church can trace its roots all the way back to Christ. As having St. Peter, the Apostle, as the first pope. He did is ministry in Rome establishing the Church there in Rome. It is from the Catholic Church that all others branch from.
