Heavy exercise will keep you awake within 4 hours of sleep by raising body temp levels, so I am curious as to whether light exercise within 4 hours of sleep will raise it enough to keep me awake.

I know about high intensity being more effective, but I just want to go on the exercise bike NOW and was wondering if it would affect my sleep. I don't usually do it, so I wanted to do it without going to bed later, as I'm actually trying to get to bed earlier as I have pushed my internal clock back too far.

I would first try the heavy exercise and see if it has an effect on "you" then try the light exercise, everyone is different in that aspect. high intensity exercise is superior to low intensity for numerous reasons so you want to perform as much of it as possible.

You should be fine, especially if you complete your workout 4 hours before bedtime. That is plenty of time for your body to absorb your workout, and return to its resting state. If anything, I would say you would sleep *better.* Just make sure you aren't trying to get in a quick workout and then going straight to bed. That is likely to keep you awake.
