Napa, Sonoma.

There are wineries throughout California. Napa and Sonoma are the most well known (and most expensive for wine tasting). Some wine regions such as Amador, Lodi, and Livermore don't charge for wine tasting and they have some great wines. The Central Coast has some beautiful scenery to enjoy on a wine tasting trip and many great wineries in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, and Santa Cruz. There are even great wineries in Southern California (Temecula and San Diego).

For info on wineries in all of these areas visit: http://www.cheers2wine.com

Temecula is great for wine tasting. It has 15 (+/-) wineries and most are located on California Rancho Road. You can rent a limo and have them drive you around. Temecula is about 1 hour north of San Diego off I-15. Loma Vista B&B is a nice place to stay, though it's a little pricey.

Napa Valley! You can't swing a cat without finding a winery. Or just go downtown. You can get a card at the visitors center which is $20 and supposedly you have to pay only ten cents for a tasting. But the wine shops downtown usually waive it.
