Ok .................I got married 23 years ago and my cake was 3 layers (tiers) but not on top of each other, kinda like stair steps. The cake people had clear cylinders with the cake platform on top at 2 different heights. I put a few flowers inside the cylinder then the cake was placed on top. The biggest layer was just flat on the table. It was very pretty. Anyhow here are some other ideas! best wishes.......................

I would not worry about what your guests like regarding a wedding cake! If they don't like frosting, they don't have to eat it! It's just a wedding cake, it's not something they are going to eat everyday for the rest of their life! I think that is a cute cake topper, but I don't think a topper looks right on just a one tiered cake. I would get a typical 3 tiered wedding cake in a vanilla flavor with a butter cream frosting or whatever they use. Ask the bakery how much cake you need to feed the number of guests you are having. You could always have a small tiered cake and the rest a sheet cake if you are having a lot of guests. For your laid back wedding, get a cake that is not too fancy. Use the cute topper and if anyone doesn't like it, too bad!

Good idea. One thing I can tell you, from what others have said, don't save any cake for your anniversary, unless you love the taste of freezer-burned cake. Or was it freezer-dried? Anyway, it's nasty. My husband and I ended up having to get blank birthday cakes because I made our cake, due to my dad having allergies, and it fell apart, so at the last minute I went to the grocery store and bought 4 blank birthday cakes, but they did have flowers on the edges. Flowers are always nice. One cake I remember had pink and green frosting for the edging and flowers. The other was yellow and green. I can't remember the other two. Anyway, back to the cake that fell apart. The only part that stayed together was the top tier, so my dad got to eat that.

You can take several cakes and make them look like a staircase with you and the groom on top, maid of honor and bridesmaids next, ushers next and on the bottom a flower girl and ring.bearer. Makes a great wedding picture too.
You can also have bridges from one cake to the other.
Each cake can be a different type (white, chocolate, carrot, etc) I've seen those believe or not.
Or you can have fancy filled cakes too.

I just did the planning for a wedding where the Bride was not crazy about the one big cake. what we ended up with was a small tradisional wedding cake and then she had 14 kinds of cheese cake. You can also have a traditional looking cake and make each layer a different flavor

My sister and I got married on the same night. She was married at 7:00 P,M. I was married at 7:30 PM, We had a double reception . My little twin sisters were bridesmaids for both of us. They had to change from blue to green for my wedding. We did have 2 big wedding cakes on 2 different tables. More recently, most couples have at least two cakes; one for the bride and one for the groom..I had fun making a Groom's cake for my nephew in 1991. It was an Italian Cream cake. It was gone in a hurry. I should have made two of them.

I had some stacked in the center, and several off to the sides. I used the Cinderella theme. So my main cakes had a Cinderella music box, each of the other cakes had Cinderella figures, such as a shoe, gus the mouse, the prince, and pumpkin coach. If I can down load a photo, I will attach it this afternoon.

I planned a wedding 3 years ago and she had 10 cakes.
they were staggered in height and spiraled around in a semi-circle. Each cake was a different flavor, it was very pretty. the first link is like her cake but without all the flowers and the center cakes. The other link is to one of the websites I send my brides to when they want ideas for wedding cake styles

I was considering doing it. I am thinking of making my own wedding cake and If I do I was thinking it would be easier to do two of them. Plus... hey if one gets dropped then there is still going to be a cake for the wedding :) I don't know why I have the fear of the dropped wedding cake.

I had one larger cake and two cupcake towers on each end of the table, and then of course a groomscake. I got a lot of compliments and the great thing was it made the cake cutters job easy bc the guests chose the cupcakes most.
The cake was sort of polka-dotted in the same color and the cupcakes were different designs, dots, swirls, etc. good luck!
