Could prolonged use of fMRI on a single person's brain lead to any health complications. If so just how much time would one person have to be exposed in a given year? What would be the side-effects and why?

MRI of any sort is not thought to have any long term effects on human tissue.

There is no radiation exposure and hence no increased risk of cancers (leukaemia etc).

The only possibly risky thing is MRI contrast (gadolinium) which can sometimes provoke an allergic reaction. This is rare. Gadolinium is very well tolerated by most people and a severe anaphylactic reaction would preclude the further use of gadolinium.
